uh, well SR'S are illegal in the us...so you can't insure it...good luck. I think you can tell them how much you want to insre the car for...like you tell them its worth 10grand or whatever..not ure though

I didn't know people can insure their engines nowadays? I must be behind or else you're talking about insuring your car with your sr20. One thing, never let insurance companies know that you have an illegal motor or modifications to make you go faster or whatever because it WILL void your insurance policy with them if you get into a wreck and they find out about it.

I have an additional several thousand dollars worth of insurance in "aftermarket parts." My s14 is still worth 10k to them on paper, although the car itself has depreciated to less than that. So if so mething bad were to happen, I'd stil be covered for most, but not nearly all of the value. Just talk to them and between raising the value of your car (raises the premium a bit) and adding aftermarket parts insurance(barely raises your premium) you can be covered.

Yes you can but like s13240 said, if they find out you have illegally modified your car (ie. put an SR20DET in it) your policy will become null and void.

Not necissarly. They will cover the car as if it had the stock motor in it but nothing more. But yes you can overinsure your car. Many people do this. thats just like when your car is stolen and you have 15g's dumped under the hood.....well if you didnt overinsure it they will cover only what the oem covers. There are exceptions to things like receipts and pictures. It all comes down to your claims adjuster.

And claims adjusters are what seperate good insurance companies from bad ones. With State Farm, I got $5000 for a 71 Datsun 510 after I wrecked it. All I had to do was turn over the receipts. On the other hand, I now have Allstate liability and some lady wrecked my 87 BMW 528. I got $1400 for it. Go figure.

Most insurance co's don't want to hear about performance parts and motor modifications. They will most likely drop you if they get wind of what you're doing under the hood.

If the car is used strictly for off road use than you will have no problem getting the engine insured. There are certain (special) insurance companies that will insure just about anything on your car. Someone from my home town spent over 10k on his engine and got it insured for every penny.

Funny side story, the car belonged to a police officer. It was stolen in front of his house, made it to the end of the block, and was hit by a car totalling it. The engine was ok, and the guy arrested the two kids himself.

keep all of your reciepts for what you do to the car so if anything happens to it, you have proof that the money was spent

Yeah, Progressive has given me pretty good insurance on all the parts I chose to insure. I insured my coilovers and electronics. I did coilovers because that's one thing I can't easily pull off my car if it is wrecked, and electronics because they could get ripped off anytime. Other than that, I chose to keep most of my stuff on the DL, because having my payments be this low on a RWD turbocharged import rules. A brand new car remotely similar (can't think of one) would cost hundreds more a month to insure, so i like things the way they are. If you want to feel out your options with insuring all your crazy parts, or overinsure your whole car's value, be careful how you say things and feel out the insurance agent. Dont say "I've got this and I need this amount of insurance for it" instead make things hypothetical and ask for quotes. If it doesn't sound like a good idea, thenjust say, "Nevermind, I don't need it." And they will leave you alone with you good old policy.
