Car: Xterra, soon to be Versa

Post

Hi all: Been lurking for awhile..looking at buying a Versa. Live in Canada.. will probably go to the US for the car.

I called my insurance agent today and they quoted me 200.00 more for the Versa than I pay for my Xterra. ( that's 550 for the Xterra and 750 for the Versa) Seems strange and I asked why.. they say the Versa doesn't have a good crash rating.. now I can't believe that!

Anyway.. any others have experience.. I know there are others here with xterra/versa combo in the garage.

thanks

JM

It may cost alot when you crash one! That would be the insurance company's angle.

Then checkout the Xterra, Yickes! I'm not riding in one of those!

If your Xterra is more than a few years old, that may be another reason... again, going back to cost of repair. It would take a much smaller hit to total a 4+ year old Xterra than a brand new Versa.

Change companies! Seriously . . . do a check-around . . . even to belairdirect! My insurance went up $500. from my '96 minivan -- same coverage [Wawanesa].

And check out Rendez Vous in Hawkebury. Seriously -- the 3 dealerships in town ignored me; Rendez Vous didn't press or pressure. Worth the hour drive.

Oh yea , the insurance of my 08Versa is higher CAD$30 for each month than my old 05X-Trail in State Farm insurance(Canada). Then I said X-Trail is expensive than Versa, how come insurance is reversed. They didn't answer my question. So I Changed the insurance company.

Dude, thats one messed up insurance company. Im 19 so insurance agencies already look at me in a bad way and without all my discounts I'd be paying 2130.60, thats 355.09 a month. But I dont have the greatest insurance policy but its good enough to cover my butt. I dont pay near that after my discounts. So yeah bro keep shopping around, there are better agencies out there.

Believe it or not, SUVs' insurance are almost always lower than small cars. Not sure why.

I know what its like being on the other end of insurance being that I work for Nationwide. We currently have a 08 Rogue with 500/500/250 0 comp and 500 coll and that is $100 month while my 08 Versa with 100/300/100 250 comp 500 coll and that is $75 month; would be cheaper if we had a paid in full policy. Once both my future wife and I get married we would be looking at 130 month for nationwide with those coverages...we are 24 & 25...Insurance can be expensive and the clients I work with day in and day out have average premiums of about 1000+ 6 mo with liab only state min...but that is the non standard side...love Ohio!!

I just complain because my 14 year old Convertible is the same as my Versa (about $60/month through Nationwide).

My experience was exactly the opposite. When we traded my wife's '05 Scion xB for her new '07 Versa our insurance went down. It was only a $40 difference, but at least it was down and not up (which is what I expected with a two-year newer car). I was told it was because the Versa did so well in crash tests.
