I have a 1989 240sx with an Sr20det engine. I was told that my tach will not work, because the 89 and 90 models did not work properly with that engine. I was driving the other day, and my speedometer wasn't working. It worked again for a second, then it stopped. my lights are very dim. not the backlights, they work fine, but the clock numbers are very dim. Also the emergency brake light is very dim. The battery light is dim also, but stays on all the time. I put a meter on the battery and alternator, and they work fine. I have an amp for my subwoofers and they have no prblem with power. My temp gauge doesn't work either, and my fuel gauge is very slow. it take about 30 minutes for it to show that i have fuel after i fill up. I purchased a cluster from a 1991 240sx dohc and it doesn't work at all. I looked for a fuse for the gauges, but i couldn't find one. Does anybody have any idea of what is going on with my car?

It is sounding like a wiring problem. You can try to put just the tach from the 91 cluster into you cluster, that should work with the SR. But it sounds like there may be something else going on here. Either lose wires, shorting, or a poor ground are what I would be look for.
