I finally got the chance to take apart the dash and check out the dimmer. I wasnt able to find anything wrong with the wiring, connections, or anything else... Is there a way to check if the dimmer switch itself is broken other than hooking it up to another J30? Does anyone have expirience, directions or pics that might help???

Next I went back and checked ALL the fuses again, and I think I found the problem. The "Glove Box" fuse was blown when the lights first went, so I replaced it (7.5A). When I went back and checked today, it was blown again. So I replaced it (7.5A) again, turned the lights on and... it blew again immediately.

So, I am wondering since it blows right away whether putting a stronger fuse, i.e 10A, might work or if that could fry everything. Or, maybe something on the circuit is putting undue power??? I could give a F about the glovebox light itself, but I have a feeling they're connected.

I REALLY hate going to the dealer, but Im gonna have to real soon if this doesnt get fixed. The majority of the time I drive is at night, of course, and I absolutly love having no idea how fast Im going and how much gas I have... Frustrating is a massive understatment.

PS I have fuses in slots that according to the fuse guide are non-functional (blank)... I assume they cant hurt so i left them but is there any reason extra slots are filled??? Could they have anything to do with this???

you need to find out why its blowing the fuse. you dont want to put a bigger fuse in there....

Do you have a service manual???

We'll figure tihs out, i really doubt your dealer will help, they hate electrical problem.s theyre only good for problems that the computers can tell them to fix!

Did you check it with an ohmmeter?

I had the same problem on my '93. Turns out a small short in the dimmer switch was causing the fuse to blow repeatedly. I had to replace the dimmer and the fuse, and everything's been fine for more than a year now. Picked up a dimmer on ebay for under $10.

Anyone seen the J30 review on this site:http://www.beaterreview.com

Not sure how I feel about my car being a beater, but it's good information.

interesting review.... I think 100k is a bit conservative, they dont factor in people who actually take care of the trans by changing the fluid and adding a cooler... And really, you can find the trans pretty dang cheap due to it being shared with the N/A 300ZX.

I replaced a 10A fuse for the instrument panel illimuniation on my 91 Q45 too yesterday and it blew last night as well.Funny thing though is that the light comes on when i apply my brakes. the LED thingy on the instrument panel too reads that my tail lamp and stop lamp are 'inoperable'.

I was going to take the car to a shop to have them check the wiring, but i just read in one of the posts before this one that they don't like doing electrical stuff.

any advice?

"the fact that it uses components shared with many other Nissan offerings means that parts availability is excellent and prices are quite reasonable."
