Hi everyone,

What button lights on your a.c. control panel are lit when your headlights are one and your dimmer lights are up (at night). On my car my "Econ", "Auto", front defogger, "Amb" and up/down are not lit.

Are they supposed to be lit?

Please, let me know because I am wondering if something is wrong, or is it just a light bulb.

Thanks,

Geoff.

Thank you again.

That darkness is kind of scary, though.

Hi everyone,

I changed the bulbs behind the climate control panel and the illumination is back to normal. I paid $6.00 for the bulbs (1.49/ea. +tax) from my local infiniti dealer.

It was all a five minute job and now when the headlights are on, the button illumination is back.

My hazard does not light up though when in use or when off.

Thanks,

Geoff.

I've not seen the Infiniti bulbs, but the usual item is called a "bulb condom", and these days they're on the APC rack at the parts stores. Usually in red, green and blue. Cheap.

HELP!!!

Today I got down to cleaning and fixing my J30. The cigarette lighter wasn't working, so I checked the fuseS and it was blown. It was a 15A and I didnt have any others, so I put a 10A there for now and it works.

BBBUUUTTT...

As soon as I turned the car on after I changed that fuse the instrument panel lights (speedometer, gas, temp) AND climate control lights didnt light up but stereo, headlights, dome lights, check engine, low gas, etc. (lights below speedometer) still worked... WTF!!!

I checked every fuse and they all looked good (I think, it was dark by then and I was hungry/tired/dirty/frustrated/piles of laudry still on floor)!!! Tommorrow im gonna check again cuz I cant drive at night, but what could have caused this??? PLEASE HELP!!!

sf_hiphophead,

When I first bought my car, I had the same problem. None of the lights that are supposed to be activated by the dimmer (instrument panel, odometer and even the a.c. lights) were working.

What I did was I took the casing off where the odometer roller switch is. (kind of tricky, so be carefull unless you want a lot of chips and cracks around the case where the light roller is). I didn't know that I was looking for, but I was just looking to see if any loose wires or anything was disconnected or if there were lifted solder joints that needed to be resoldered. I found that everything was alright. So I just lightly tapped every transistor to make sure that they were in place and not loose. All of them were tight.

At the same time I rolled the roller back and forth about four or five times. Then I put everything back together and cut the car on and the lights worked.

Only once in the last year have I cut the car on at night and noticed that the dimmer lights did not come on and all I had to do was adjust that roller again (I moved it up and down all the way until I saw the lights; once or twice did the trick) I figured that there could be a small short in my car since it is 14 years old, but it works all of the time now so I didn't want to try to fix something that is working.

So try that.

If you have any other questions, reply and I'll get back to you.

Geoff.

Yeah when I got my J30 mine did the same thing, the exact same thing. I didn't worry I have owened a ton import cars and I have seen this before. I took my left hand and slapped the holy hell out of the dimmer switch and bam they all came on. What happens is the contacts inside get dirty or the contact doesn't touch the little printed board inside. If you go to ebay parts you can find the dimmer switch or the entire panel with dimmer and cruise control switches intact. Now in the past I had some that were so bad, due to cost I just by passed the switch entirely and wired it in a way that those ligts are no longer are controled by the dimmer switch. I had my J30 for two months and most of my parts came from ebay or other sites, but mainly ebay. Some guy on ebay is selling part lists for the J30 for about $5. I had gotten one and it shows all the parts with it's OEM part number. So what I do is Google the part number and that's how I find what I need. Everytime I call the dealer for a simple part it is always a couple of hundred dollars.

Hi everyone,

Two days ago it got really cold here in PA (around 20 degrees) and for some reason my dimmer lights went out. Only this time it was different from when I first got the car.

After taking the dimmer control apart again and looking at it really closely, I saw a solder joint that was cracked (only one) on the circuit board. So I resoldered it and it fixed my dimmer problem.

So if anyone who may have the same problem, try seeing if there is any cracked solder joints on the circuit board. This my also work for you sf_hiphophead.

Sorry, but I don't have pictures to show anyone, but take my word for it. I tried slapping the area to see if it will come on, but it didn't.

Thanks,

Geoff.

1 thing i just feel like throwing in here, when you work on ur car, make sure that you replace that fuse for the proper one, instead of the 10A fuse.
