Instrument Cluster - Speedo side comes on and off

I have owned a 2001 Pathfinder LE for about 5 years now. Ever since I have owned it, the speedo side of the instrument cluster will light up and go dark while driving at night. Most of the time it stays dark. Then when I plan to have a shop look at t, it lights up again. Would a faulty light bulb cause this problem? Or is there something else happening?

The bulb may be loose in the socket or the filament is bad but occasionally makes contact. See here on instructions to access the bulbs.
