Does anyone know what the actual signals are that get sent to the S13 Digital cluster? Or where to find documentation on that? I'd like to know if I'm looking at some kind of analog voltage from 0v-12v or something like that (where the voltage level is directly related to the value). or if there is some kind of digital interface being used, like RS-232. Yes, I know it is a digital cluster, but it is possible the actual values coming in are analog and the cluster has an analog-to-digital converter on board. That would make sense if the two clusters are interchangeable.
I'm planning on doing some computer-wiz stuff with these signals ;) to make it all very customizable!

Its gotta be analog because digital or analog, the cluster still gets its tach signal from the ecu which is the same ecu for either. There has to be some sort of converter for the 2 different style clusters because they both receive the same signal. If you. Look in the fsm on how to diagnose tachometer it. Might say exactly what signal is used. Might be some useful info for Custom gauges. I learned all my stock gauge cluster stuff from doing a complete. Custom gauge cluster with all pivot gauges and pivot uses all the same signals as Nissan so this would be new news for me.

Thanks. Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the fsm?

So I was wrong about where the cluster gets its signal from. It gets signal straight from the vss. Uses it, and converts it to a digital signal the ecu and hud can read. At least that's what I think the signal type is. But for sure it doesn't matter what gauge cluster you use because it does have a converter.

Oh sweet. I'm in the process of trying to acquire a digital cluster with HUD because my tach and HUD are messed up. I'd debug, but the car isn't in my possession at the moment. I just want everything working, so if something goes wrong, then I know it must have been something I'd just changed myself. Therefore, easier debugging.
