I run a 240 sx s13 on an oval and do well enough that we want to try and make the car neater for the sponsors. When you look in, the dash cluster is "in stalled" in a bare "dash". All of the interior is gone and this leaves the cluster looking odd.
My question is this: I have found that if the cluster isn't there or is bad, the car wont rev, some sort of limp mode. Pulls like crazy till about 3500 and then dies until idle. Then goes again. Is there a magic wire splice that will "delete" the cluster?
Thanks in advance.

Hello, maybe this can sort of help you clear out some things.

When I was changing the cluster of my 90 240sx s13 with ka24de (98), I found out that a dead tach wouldn't let my car start. I have the cluster with the removed tach signal from the OBD2 ECU and replaced it with a signal from the distributor. I replaced with a functional tach and it started.
If seen from behind the cluster, you see the 4 bolts for the tach, the one at the right carries the pulses for the tach. I think that one is the hint for what you are looking for, but I can't further help. I hope it helps you figure things out.

On the speedo there is power, ground, pulse signal in and converted signal (voltage) that goes to ecu. That's the only thing from the cluster that affects ecu but my experience even without that speedo signal the car should run fine (at least for sr20's)

Also, tamez the reason you're car wouldn't start is because what runs the tach (and timing for ecu) us the crankshaft position sensor located on the trans bell housing on s14's. All you did was find another signal for it but I bet with a consult, if you datalogged timing it would be 90° or 180° off (not actual timing otherwise your car wouldnt run)
S13's don't have that.... Just the cas in the dizzy.
