Hello all,

Recently picked up a fairly rough 1995 Hardbody. Lots of miles (318K) but it runs well and I got a deal on it. One problem is that the instrument cluster lights were not working. I looked around the forum and found a post making reference to faulty dimmer switch and the way to jump the connection to permanently turn the lights on. Sure enough, tried it and it worked. The dimmer seems to be dead but the paper clip trick was working well....

Well, it was working until it fell out and I accidentally put it in the wrong spot and shorted something out in the process. Doh! The headlights work but the dash illumination does not (despite having brand new bulbs). Also, the short took out my rear driving lights (those bulbs are good too).

Fuses all look good. Any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

O.

Try pulling the - Tail Lamp fuse and take a test light and check for power. Do the same with the hazard & stop lamp. Can also pull the dimmer switch on the dash & test for power. Rather doubtful if your dealing with a bulb issue?

I fixed it by replacing the fuse. Although it looked good, there must be something wrong with it b/c I tested it and it came up bad. Never had that happen before, fuse looks good but wasn't working. Replaced the fuse and it works great.

Thanks for the update. Done worse cut a section out of the bed of my daily driver/ parts truck and cut through the wire harness for the tail light assembly that's why I figured you were dealing with a fuse issue . After splicing the harness back together the instrument cluster lights & tail lights quit working.
