Just bought a 2012 M35h and going to sell my 2006 M35 Sport. The car is flawless except for the DVD drive that stopped working a year ago. I usually use Google Maps on my phone because it has traffic information but now that I'm selling the car, I want to fix the DVD player so the new owner can enjoy a truly flawless car.

Does anyone know of instructions or a video that shows a DIY'r how to remove the DVD drive that is located in the glove box? There are several on eBay for $150. The dealer told me the only way to fix it is by replacing the whole navigation system for $5,000.

I really appreciate any help with this and if anyone has questions about this year, I will be glad to answer them. Have owned it, happily, for over 5 years now :)

Don't have pictures, but removal of the DVD player is very easy...had to do it for the Nav Hack.
I used these instructions to do the Nav Hack: http://www.carfaq.org/electronics-membe ... /nav-hack/
Just follow the directions for changing out the in cabin air filter up to the step of taking out the glovebox.
Then, all you have to do is unbolt the DVD player.
There are only 4 bolts that hold the player in and all the connectors in the back are plug and play.

You should be good to go...unless it's a bigger problem with your nav.

Removing the glove box and paneling was pretty straight forward. Took about 30 minutes. Once the DVD drive arrives, I will install and put another update.

The screen is now blank. Will not turn on. A lot of wires are disconnected so that's to be expected I guess.

The used DVD player arrived on Friday. I installed today. It took about 40 minutes but everything is back to normal.

I was ready to buy a used DVD on eBay for $150 but saw one listed auction style so I bid on it. I ended up winning it for $32 only. Very happy!!

Saved myself a ton of money and actually got to install a cabin air filter that I had bought a year ago but never got around to installing. It's right behind the glove compartment so it added 30 seconds to the task :)
