I bought my 1993 Infiniti J30 after losing my 1992 Camry-XLE in flooding from Hurricane Faye back in August of last summer in my local area for the bargain price of $2800. My question is that I am looking into replacing my entire Power Antenna unit as mine had quit working or rather works intermittently. I have checked all the wiring and fuses and all is in perfect working order. I find that there are antenna mast replacement instructions everywhere but none to replace with an aftermarket unit in detail. If anyone has any detailed instructions on how to replace the entire power antenna unit with an aftermarket one, please advise me further.

Thanks,

Larry LittlePearl-White 1993 Infiniti J30132k Miles.

Could be a radio/cd/tape player head unit related issue rather than an antenna problem.

Can you by-pass the head unit to power the antenna up and down, as a test?

The original head unit crapped out like so many Bose decks did in the J30 from what I know from the last owner. It has an AIWA CD-X204 CD deck in it now. I did connect the power antenna and It didnt work but barely anymore is why it was disconnected from what I know. So I just need a delailed, strp by step instruction on replacing the entire power antenna unit, motor and all with an aftermarket Power Antenna unit. Can anyone help with the instructions, please?

Thanks,

You're not asking if aftermarket ones are available but instructions for it. Does that mean you already have one?

Infiniti dealers carry originals for $230. A bit too much I would say considering the value of the car. There's plenty of aftermarket universal-looking one's on ebay for $70 and up. Don't know if they come with instructions or not but you can ask the sellers. They also come with a pack of various angled mounts heads. I'm assuming you can't use the original Infiniti mount head?

Does your new head unit have a wire for a power antenna? The J30 schematic shows that there is two radio harness connectors. The 10 position connector (M54) has a Y/R wire at position 5. This sends the signal to the power antenna to raise or lower. The only problem is the schematic does not indicate the voltage levels to raise (12V?) or lower (0V?) the antenna which would be compatible for most head units. Let me know if you want me to measure the voltage on that wire.

Yes this AIWA X204 Unit has a single blue wire to send signal to the power antenna to raise and lower.

Sorry for the delay. The Y/R wire (at the antenna unit) is 0V until the radio is switched on, then it is at 12Vdc. As long as the blue wire does the same, it should work the original antenna unit fine. Let us know if it does!
