Ok so the guy painting my car said 3m double sided tape sucks and I need to use something better. Then he comes up with using liquid nails and rivets to hold it into place why it drys overnight and painting my kit installed on the car(after removing rivets and fixing the skirts). My question is what do you guys use to hold your side skirts/body kits on? I know his method sounds really stupid..so I want some opinions and methods thats you guys use. Thanks in advance..this is a 4 yr project and I want it done right.

Used 3M tape all around. And OEM style flush mount screws at the wheel wells to mount the kit from my local Fastenal industrial hardware store. The glue works good but I was told it will not give enough flex for the kit. So for example on hot days the fiberglass will move and flex resulting in small cracks around some areas, not to mention how much of a pain it is when you need to take it off. The tape can be put on flush with little detection. It just all depends on how much work the auto-body is willing to put in and how much you want to spend. My auto-body tech was able to apply the tape between the door jam on the side skirts and the door opens and closes with no rubbing. Another note when using 3M tape is to make sure the kit sits flush on to the body with no pressure to force it to sit flush. Doing this will ensure the tape wont detach itself.

wtf is up with your paint guy? 3M double sided tape only sucks if you don't prep the surface correctly.

I used it on my sideskirts and they've been holding strong for almost a year now.

you can kind of see mine in this picture, i just left mine visible because its a track only car and i actually dont mind how it looks. you can easily paint over them too tho and then you can hardly see them.

3M tape plus rivets at the end should be just fine. Why would your paint guy be against that? I've never met a body guy who prefers drilling holes in the body.

If you think its not right, I would go with your instinct. Find another body shop that has passion working on cars rather than just getting work done for the next pay check. I lost 250 bucks to a painter who I thought was good. Brought in my trunk and wing to get painted. Later on found out he just painted over the original paint and never prepped the surface so it started cracking. After finding another painter. The guy told me that the retard went over my wing and trunk with 7 layers of paint to cover up the cracks. The dude still owes me at least 60 bucks for the gallon of paint he said to bought but never showed me the receipt or the materials used. This is one of the reasons why I hate having/paying other people to do work for me. I trust only in myself to get sh*t done right, so I do what ever is within my ability. I even had a hard time encouraging my current painter to have everything come out right. There's still little things that could have been better, that i know other people have done perfectly. I have no problem laying down cash but some people just don't take into consideration.
