Installing vanity lights in the doors

I want to install 4 neon lights into the bottom of my doors and wire them to the interior light switch for ON DOOR OFF so when the door is opened they flick on. There are no vanity lights already there so ill be cutting into the body slightly to install them and was wondering if anyone could help me out with the wiring side of things.

Ive been told the best solution is a relay from the switch to the lights and then running power directly from the battery to the lights but im not sure how to wire any of this up so some hints or a link to a tutorial would be great
