I will be installing an external transmission cooler on my '93 J30 in the next two weeks. Since I already have a Hayden 1679, I was going to install that. However, since the Hayden 1679 is like one of the best transmission coolers on the market, should I get a lesser Hayden?

For those who have already installed a transmission cooler, where are you mounting it? There seems to be very little room on the J30 to mount anything.

So far as I know, "overcooling" isn't a transmission issue. Getting that monster to fit may be another matter. If nothing else, that model seems to bring a pretty penny on eBay.

While you can't really have too much cooling...you get to a point where more does no good. That cooler is recommended for large motorhomes and vehicles with GVWR of up to 30,000 lb. I think it's safe to say you could go with a smaller one and not see any decrease in benefit.

i usded a B&M tanscooler rated for 10,000 GVW and i monted it behind the front bumper (strip the frontend and you will see a really nice spot on the bottom right side) i had to relocate the horn from the rightside t the left side no biggy now i had to run the hoses under the core support so i had to cut two notches in the mud gaurd under the car again no biggy but the whole job took me about 4-5 hours i took my time

Infinitidreams20 - can you please post a picture of exactly where you are connecting the transmission cooler tubes to the transmission? I am thinking about installing a B & M one. Did you have to buy extra tubing or clamps etc.

Also if possible post a picture of the area where you mounted the transmission cooler. I was thinking about somehow placing it somewhere around the condenser or the radiator. I guess there are many options.

Clean install Nismochi but I would weary about routing the tubes under that frame.Maybe weld a U shaped bracket just incase.Just a thought.

Nismochi, Thanks for the pics. I now know where to connect the cooler. I am still little confused as to where to mount the cooler. The cooler you used looks pretty large.. I am assuming you placed it in between the radiator and the condensor or somewhere around that area.

I see there are two pipe opening at the bottom. Does it matter which one is outlet and which one is inlet?

Finally, the dumbest question. Did you have to drain your transmission fluid to install the cooler. I would think you will have to - but just wanted a confirmation.

Thanks a lot Nismochi. Appreciate your help.

After i finished and took the pics, i bolt the plastic cover back to the car, then the tubs are not exposed. As for which is inlet or outlet, i don't think it matter, as long as you get one in and one out. Also, i put it in front of the condensor, the lower part on the driver side.

nismoChi's cooler is a little larger then mine but yes his hoses are routed the same way his mounting is way different i am worried about using the "ziplocks" through the radiator heard bad stories of after a while rubbing pinholes in the radiator causing leaks so i mounted it with a L bracket on the bottom and mounted it to the core support then used the supplied brackets and just bolted one side to the cooler and one side i used self tapers. And yes the only thing extra i bought was the L bracket $1.99My car is at my parents right now i dont know when you are going to do your job but if you still need pics ill take some this weekend if you want

they are away from most harm if you are going to hit the lines then you are probably going to cause more damage to worrie about then just the lines

NismoChi clean job none the less good work

No, but i did a couple drain and refill before i do the oil cooler to get more fresh fuild into the system, and also get rid of anything if there is any that can clog the cooler. When you do the cooler, have a container ready to catch the fuild when you disconnect the lines. Also, check the level again after you driver it around.
