hi i was wondering if its hard to install the sr20det myself i have the tools and stuff and my dad is a machanic so he would know maybe. but i was wondering if its cheeper to do it myself or to have people to do it. i know logicaly it would be cheeper, but what im scared of is not knowing what extra parts to buy and correctly installing them and i dont really want to mess up the job then i have no one to blame. there is this shop in tampa that said they would install it, they have this package or something, where it would cost 6,000 for the engine parts and labor. it seems cheep to me, but i think they will keep the KA too. so what do you guys thing? heres what their website says about the package deal.

SR20DET REDTOP stage 2 performance pkg ~ 250 RWHP (@ 14psi): incluges SR20DET red-top motor-set, GReddy 3" Downpipe, Greddy Turbo Timer, Greddy Profec B Spec II Boost Controller, Walbro 255 Fuel pump, Greddy type-s BOV and flange welded to hot pipe, 3" custom cat-back exhaust (choice of N1 style or drager style muffler), Greddy V-spec frount mount intercooler, Flex-A-Lite dual 12" electric fan, new small battery, all fluids, NGK plugs, working and charged a/c, power steering, and installation of motor and all parts. - $6000

do it yourself, you have more than enough resources to do it. Im doing an extensive swap and i have gotten my motor striped down to the block with crappy K-mart hand tools (IE, no power tools, no air tools) and zero previous experience.

$6000 seems like a reasonable price what is the shop called?

thats the place in tampa, the price seems reasonable.

That price is excellent. I installed my SR myself and had no trouble. I did all of it with a craftsman 52 piece tool set with only basic mechanical skills. You, your dad, and all of your tools will definitely do the trick.

But on a side note, that price is very, very good.

the amount of stuff i learned from doing it myself was a big reason i would suggest you to do it, as long as youre comfortable with all the different tasks. i knew i could do it and i did, if ur confident u can do it itll be easy. my calculations put your performance package at least at $8000 with parts and installation of all that crap. either way...

I totally agree with this, because the knowledge you will walk away with from this install is great. Plus when you pop your hood and people start asking how you did this? And how hard was that? You can speak from experience and that is a great feeling.

Swap is easy. Do it yourself, murge. If an old fart like me can do it, you young guys with a lot more brain cells and energy can do it. Just make sure you get the motor from a reputable shops like HT, Enjuku, phase2, and others.

there isnt really a "manual" but there are alot of guidlines, wiring diagrams and FAQ's out there that are extremely helpful.
