I can't seem to think of any EASY way to install subs in the J... has anyone done this before and what would be the best route to run a 0 gauge?

What kind of head unit should I get? Any suggestions?

Did any J30 come with factory subs? I see a hook up for a 6CD changer but there's some other plugs back there...

Any GOOD affordable upgrades as far as the speakers go? I had to super glue one of mine back together last year in 100 degree weather.

Yea that was a RICE Option, dunno if your car had that or not.

Unless your talking about the rear speakers which act like subs.

But seriously I don't know how to install, might try searching.

did it yesterday. what year is your j? mines a 96. it was the biggest pain in the a** ever. i cant think of any way u can fit 0 ga. i had a hard enough time fitting 5 ga thru the fender well and door. i ran it under the pass. side door sill and cut a hole in the grommet in the trunk. under the carpet there are two rubber plugs on the pass. side. if u pull those out theres some pretty big bolts there that make an excellent ground. u can do a pretty clean install on these cars and the insullation is amazing. the trunk is very small tho id probably go with just one sub. kenwood is awsome for that kind of install 1-12" 3011 sub and 9104d amp will blow ur mind. i like sony head units i can write mp3 data disks and fit almost 200 songs on one cd. i dont kno how many other head units will play a data cd but the sony ones are under 200 bucks and sound great plus 4 volt pre-amp outputs are awsome. for 6x9s run whatever u like.

ok ive had my setup for almost a year now...i have a $100 JVC headunit that plays data as well as audio with an aux port on the front...my 6x9s were shot as well and i did the superglue thing for awhile but i replaced those with JBL 3ways...i just recentrly came across the idea of getting the original BOSE repaired but i havent done it yet and am still a little unsure about going that route....initially i had 2 MTX 10s in a vented box with an Alpine VPower 100x1 amp....well i blew those within 3 months so i then upgraded to Kicker CVRs...i blew those last week and tonight i got a great deal on 2 Alpine Type R 10s....i dont plan on blowing those at all...in the front im still running stock components

as far as installation goes its pretty hard to find a spot on the firewall to put the power wire through and theres no place to attempt to drill through it IMO...however when i had my alarm and remote start they drilled a hole for me so i just ended up using the same hole as they made it larger than necessary...pulling the back seat and running the wires is pretty easy as its just a few bolts for the bottom and screws for the top...directly behind the back seat on either side there is a rubber hole that you can go through with your RCAs.remote and power wires....i grounded my amp to the bottom drivers side bolt that holds the fuel cell in place...hope that helps you with your situation

Thank you, your information was a great help. My J is 97. Keith, can you give me the model number of your deck? I wanna see if I can get one that cheap. lol Thanks a lot guys. I'm going to make an attempt when I get back from Colorado at the end of the month. I'll let you know how it goes.

Congrats on the girl!

FYI there is a place that repairs speakers here in Tampa:

http://www.speakerex.com/

I had two 12" Infinity woofers for my home speakers reconed with new voice coils installed & can say I am extemely pleased. Cost was around @ $120.

wow, thats a great site. i just might use that to repair my huge home cabinet speaker thats got a 15" in it. lol...

as far as running the wire. i was able to run a 4 gague wire through a grommit that was already in the firewall.... i made my project a whole day thing, took apart the whole damn car... it was a "learning experience",

anyways, if you pull back the carpet on the passenger side foot area. you will see one around there, closer to the left hand side. i used a screwdriver to puncture it, then just fed the wire from outside through there, along the right hand side of the car, then through a grommit behind the back seat. that is what i found as the simplest solution for me. you might be able to get a 0 gague wire through there as well, just gotta pull a little harder. gl

Yeah, i put subs in mine a while back.Mine's a 94 and it took a long time. Running the power wireto the amp was the biggest pain. But i drilled a hole in my firewall andput the power wire through the holes behind the back seat that arein the metal sheet.

i ran the power wire down behind the strut...underneath the plastic cover that goes along the inside of the frame and then up through a grommet in the rear passenger side foot well...from there it was just take off the back seat and your good...i also grounded to one of the bolts on the fuel cell...i ran the rcas and remote wire from the deck down the drivers side of the car

is there anyway you can post some pictures of where you put the power cable through the bottom of the passenger side seat, through the firewall, and to the battery? It would help a lot.

ok you all may thin im crazy but i have had mine in my car for three years now working on four and i ran mine through where the heater cable for the heater valve goes through and its pretty easy goin through there i have a 5 gauge, only difficult part was finding the other end on the inside but once you find it your good. another downside is my wire was almost too short but had a spare one so i added on more wire in the beginning. i can get you a pic of where it is if you need one.as for running in the intrior i went under the center console and at the back seats i have one of those full infiniti carpets so it covers it up. any other question can probabely help. i have done plenty of systems in my friends cars so i can help you if needed.
