my friend wants me to install a sub/amp in her 99 Altima w/ the stock cd player. i looked at the back and didnt see any rca plugs, just one weird looking plug(round ~9 pin). is their any simple way to get the audio signal to the amp w/o the rca plugs and with that other plug or would i be better off getting an aftermarket deck? thanks

speaker line-level adapter should do the trick. Some amps have it built in. Just hook the wires going into one of your rear speakers into the adapter, and it will convert to rca.

yeah i think that will work. But an aftermarket cd player would be better. and the 9 pin should be the auxilary.

so i can get an adapter for that round plug in the back of the deck to convert it to rca? i hooked up the same sub/amp into her pioneer deck in her last car and it used the red/white rca plugs out of the back of the deck into the amp, so on the back of the stock deck, that round plug serves the same purpose(i dont really know if its 9pin but its round and female), but just looks different? just getting my story straight cuz i didnt really understand how you said to splice into the speaker wire, thanks

The round plug is prob for a cd changer.

The adapter converts the speaker level signal going to your speakers into a line-level rca signal for your amplifier.

Splice/tap into one of the speaker's wires and hook this up to the adapter. I would pick one in the trunk closest to the sub/amp. Then run rca cables from the other end of the adapter to your amplifier.

It's pretty simple. Do a search on google if your lost.

oh okay, so i'd splice into the right and left wire of one speaker for stereo(r/l) signal and use the adapter to convert those signals to line level to go to the amp. i think i got it, thanks a lot.:) one more question, do you know which wire in the stock harness is the remote that i could use for the amp or any site i could go to to see a wiring diagram to figure it out myself?

Chances are there is no remote lead in the stock harness.

But some of the line-level adapters will also have a remote lead output which turns on the amp when it detects a speaker signal.

In my case, I wired the remote lead to a near by 12v socket which turns on when the key is the on position. The amp turns on/off with the car.

You can also go to the fuse box and plug in a wire to the cigarette lighter fuse.

you need to tap into both if you want to be able to fade the signal from one side to another. If only a MONO setup is desired, then you could only tap into one of the rear speakers. Really simple to do.

For the turn on wire. You just need any wire that turns on when the ignition is turned on. You get a test lamp and turn the car off. If the light is off good. Turn the car on and test again. Light on great use it. If it does something different don't use if find another.

They are all over the place. I can't tell you without being there. But just get a test lamp they are cheap and start testing wires. You won't find a wire in the back. Maybe the antenna wire. But I would just look into the front of the car some where. Or just run a wire from the actually agnition wires.
