Thinking about getting a Tein H-Tech and KYB GR-2.. Looking for an affordable setup that will not drop too much and go easy on daily driving but increase performance over the stock setup...

Soo having said that, what tools would I need in order to install the new shock/spring combo? Do I still need a compressor tool even when Im replacing the whole combo unit?

Hello,

Yes, you will need a spring compressor as you have to reuse your stock upper spring seats and insulators.....even if you upgrade to Nismo insulators or Cusco/Tein camber plates you will still need to compress the springs.

There used to be an awesome KYB/spring how-to "stuck" to the top of the general forum. As I haven't played around much with the new NICO look, I'm not too sure where it has moved to.....if it's not in the suspension forum then I'd suggest you search around. It's very informative and a great write up!

Hope that helps.

I think that sounds look a nice mild street setup.

You'll need a spring compressor (for Macpherson struts) which you can get for free at Autozone (you get your deposit back), you'll need the appropriate sockets and wrench and a torque wrench to get everything torqued to spec.

You'll want the suspension at full droop, so jack it up instead of just working on ramps.

You will probably want to pick up some KYB dust boots too, if yours are starting to rot/tear. I also replaced my strut mounts with new KYB units too.
