Yea its my DD why do you ask?

And I am kind of worried about the oil pan..... I heard some rumor I could use a jack where the transmission connects to the motor?

You can jack it up there, but if you do jack it up consider loosening the trans mount to allow for movment and so it doesn't bind.

If you put a block of wood inbetween the jack and oil pan to distribute the load there really should be an issue with damaging it. It isn't going to take a tramedous amount of force to lift the engine up a few inches so you can swap the mounts. It is a fairly easy task, so good luck and be safe

Because solid motor mounts transmit A LOT of vibrations from the engine through the chasis.

oil pans works great, just use a good peice of square wood. not like a 2x4, but like maybe 1.5 foot x 1.5 foot or something. what really sucks about this job is the nuts on the lower part of the motor. part of the sub frame is the way and it's had to get some sockets in there. also the nuts were so hard to break away.

i had nismo transmission motor and transmission mounts. one of the bolts on the transmission mount broke when i was installing it. i looked at the ends where it broke and noticed small air bubbles.

yeah it's kind of a PITA. And it sucks for a DD.

My buddy had them in his SRT4 and i hated being in that car cause of the violent shaking.

Loosen the trany mounts but not all the way and jack it up from the bell housing. You are going to hate the mounts at first.

I put hockey puck motor mounts in my car mostly cause like to DIY and cause one side collapsed completely one night so I had to but the pucks aren't too bad for daily use. I get some vibration(sometimes it's alot) but i can't imagine how bad completely solid mounts would be. I would think riding a jackhammer to work might be more pleasant.

To install them i put the car up on jacks on the front and used a piece of wood underneath my oil pan and jacked the motor up one side at a time. I got more clearance one side at a time but you might be able to do both sides at once. You will need a swivel socket/extension though to reach the bottom nuts, other than that it should be pretty straight forward. Watch clearance on the top of the motor as your going up though.

I followed AZHitman's procedure to make your own engine mounts. yeah it's rougher then stock but it ain't bad.

Anyways for installation it took me ~1 hour. Unbolt both the engine mounts and the transmission mount. Then i used a piece of 4x4 between the AC compressor bracket and the jack. Jacked up that side of the engine, pulled out the factory mount, put the new one in.Dropped it back down(Obviously line up the threaded part with the hole).Go to the other side, use the 4x4 on the alternator bracket, jack up that side of the engine, swap the mount, lower engine.

Then just climb underneath torque both the lower engine mount bolts, then go up and torque the uppers, then reattach the transmission mount. It took ~2 hours of driving for the mounts to settle all the way, so then i went and just retightened everything again and it's been great for the last year.

If the OP is talking solid mounts you're going to feel a lot of vibration, I filled my mounts in my spec v about 5 years ago with polyurethane I bought from mcmaster (window weld works too), theres a little bit more vibration but its not that noticeable. The filled mounts do the job the same but they offer a less vibration in cabin. I'd avoid solid mounts on a DD

yeah the nismo ones suck, esspecially if they break while installing them.if your motor mounts have never been changed in your car, this is where it becomes harder. took me under an hour in my red car, but took me forever in my white car. cause the bolts wouldn't break free.

i have cusco mounts in my car. they're polyurethane. the car shakes obviously. it's not as bad as people make it out to be. while driving it's hardly noticeable. idle you def. know it's there.

leave loose change in your ash try or something yeah you'll hear it shaking.

if you don't want to be inconvenienced at all then get the nismo stuff.

I have the nismo one's and never had trouble installing them in the driveway. My whole dash vibrates, and my b&m shifter rattles more than when I had the old mounts.

I got the project nissan mounts, and one broke while being tightened.

It seems like there are nismo mounts, oem mounts... and everything else is either too hard or too cheap.

is JGS the way?

how to install motor mounts on a 1996 300ZX. Is it better to remove the bracket from the engine with the mount attached?

If I can do it again, I would use new OEM mounts filled with urethane.

odd that you didnt ask me man. dont you remember im rocking hockey puck mounts son!! the mounts are really easy to replace. but why are you going solid?? im not going to lie but it gets real annoying after a while. mine are not solid but the hockey pucks are pretty damn stiff and i get no movement at all as you saw a while back.

to jack the engine up i used the ac bracket on the driver side but i can remember what bracket used on the passenger side. im going back to stock and making my own engine damper.

I am so glad I read this thread about now, I was about to buy nismo motor mounts to replace my oem mounts, but after reading all the experiences with the solid mounts I'll skip the nismo mounts and either new oem mounts or jgs mounts
