i got my short block back from the factory couple weeks ago, now i am thinking of getting some pauter rods.

my block as of now has the following in it:

wiseco pistons 9:1 .20 overtoga main bearingstoga rod bearingsarp head studscometic MLS head gasketstock rods...

anyone think there should be any machining required if i were just to install pauter rods myself? just unbolt, the 2 rod bolts, push the piston thru the top of the block and swap the piston assembly right? easy as that? anyone think so?

I hope so. That's my plan too, and I'm hoping that's how it works. I have heard that there is something with a clearance issue, which worries me. aspecially with the pauter rods. or is it crower? I'm not sure, but one of them is supposed to have clearance issues.

Depending on what type of rod bolts you use. It is as simple as you say. Unless the KA has Press-in Wrist pins. (then you need an rod toaster and a press to take them off)

The only concern (If they use wrist pin clips. I.E full floating rods) is rod bolt torque. You should use the stretch type install when tightening rod bolts especially on after market rods, for this you would need a rod bolt stretch gauge and someone to teach you how to do it.

All of this should be pretty simple if you are willing to buy the right tools. I think the hardest part would be reinstalling the pistons with out breaking a ring.

If you do it make sure you treat the piston/rod combo and the crank journal like they are highly explosive. A small nick can or scratch can cause alot of problems at 5000 RPM.

I have heard differing opinions as to whether the block needs to be clearanced for pauter rods. I would ask IVAN he surely knows.

RBSG from summit $137.99

I don't think a machine shop would chatge much more than that just for rod install. Especially if you took the head off first and took them a short block.

some people say pauters do have to be machined, some dont. whats the diff between bushed fit rods and pressed fit rods? rod bolt torque isnt that much am i correct? like around 40 ft lbs of torque i think... pauter rods come with ARP rod bolts anyways.

Rod bolt torque is not always accurate though. It can be used but the best way, and the only way I would install them in my motor is by bolt stretch.
