I searched the posts but didnt seem to find anything on this, have any of you tried to install the OEM remote keyless entry in the 90-93Q? Im assuming you could find a Remote keyless module out of a 94-96 and get a remote(wich i have) and wire it in.The remote window trick would be fun too but I assume like the aftermarket counterparts you need a module for each window.and while were on the subject who knows whats needed to get the sideview mirrors to move in reverse?

Interesting idea, but I dont think theres anything special about the OEM remote keyless. I think it would be more worth it to get an aftermarket keyless, with LED, and enough channels to control window mods.

I actually have an aftermarket alarm on my grey Q, Other than the remote start(wich I dont use much) the aftermarket remotes offer almost the same features as the OEM ones do, I guess Im just trying to do my Black Q as stock as possible with the highest quality.Ive got a wrecking yard pretty close here that i pretty much have carte blanche to anything I want for dirt cheap.

Very true.

Id like to see the wiring diagram for the OEM unit. Ive almost memorized the wire locations to do an aftermarket remote start/alarm/keyless into a Q45.

I guess thats why in my mind im thinking...its easier to do aftermarket.

Probably correct as I think you would need the BCM from the later car, and who knows how that would integrate into the earlier car-lan?

It woudlnt be worth it..... It would be far away from a plug and play because the wiring system is different.

But ... but ... a 1990 Q45t with ... 422,000 miles??????

Sheesh, let's talk about that a little, too, even if you have to start a new thread!

What's the history on that particular machine? I'm sure folks would like to know how it held up - what's been replaced, etc.

Actually it has more than that, Id guess maybe closer to 435k, but then again is there much difference? Ive got a few displays and a few years ago I had a speedo problem and replaced it for a year,Ive got the old one back in now with the 422k on it.The car has had 2 engines, The first engine somehow made it to 229k and then died due to chain guides. Thats when I purchased the car.Its gone through 3 trannys(2 with me) and currently has about almost 200k on the current engine and 80k on the transmission.Whats been replaced? Just about everything, I run mobile 1 oil and change it about every 5 k.It drives just as nice as my black Q does with 170k and in some regards is actually in better shape. The thing that strikes me as amazing is how rattle free the car is. Ive dismanteled everything and Dynamatted the entire car but credit has to be given to the engineers who designed such a car that can have so much usable life. I used to be a little self concious about the odometer, now I just love looking at the look on the peoples faces that get in.They cant believe it, whats more they assume its a 1998,2000,2002.Yet another testament to a timeless design. The reason I so much would love to have an OEM keyless in my other car is the fact that having a vehicle with so much milage Ive noticed the only things that do stick around are the OEM ones. As we all know the wiring is much different on a 94-96 but then again Im not looking for it to perform as a 94-96 did. Im only looking to lock/unlock the doors and would assume Ive got to find the keyless entry module and wire in power to the unit and then wire in the doors.Anybody know where on a 94-96 the module/transmitter is located in the car?

Very interesting about your Q indeed...... BTW, paragraphs are your friend...

I just dont see using the factory setup being the best way to go. i think aftermarket would be much easier to do, and just as reliable.

Aftermarket, properly soldered, remote not abused will last over 5~10 years.

soldering the wires is a major key to having a lasting install.

OEM keyless modules are rarley just a keyless entry module. They are integrated into the body control module and likely numberous other systems. Honestly can't say for sure if this car is like that but I would bet it is. I've been installing aftermarket systems for years and if you get a good one and take care of it like chinaonnitrous said, you'll have a great system for years, and much easier to service and get replacement remotes should the need arrise.

I posted some links to my web site with alarm/keyless entry install information on another thread for Wes to check out so maybe they'll get posted on q45.org
