Hi everyone

Just installed the ambient lighting kit from the q60/q50 in my q70

It was on sale in Canada for a few weeks, like 70% discount.

It’s a pain in the a** to install because you really need to run wire all over and make holes. It’s actually that way even for the q60/q50. Least plug-and-play accessory I’ve ever installed from OEM.

ANYWAY.

The key to the install is understanding which wire to use. The Q70 doesn’t have a complex acccessory harness like the newer car has.

But You can tap into the illuminated door sill harness wire for 3 out of 4 wires.

For the last wire, you need to tap directly to the BCM harness. Luckily the posi-tap doesn’t damage the wiring and it’s how Infiniti says to do it anyway.

So basically wiring has to go like this

Connecting the lighting kit harness wires to the illuminated door sill harness (vehicle side) as so:
Black to black
Orange from the kit to Beige from the door sill harness
Pink to Pink

The final Yellow cable from the kit connects to the Blue wire on the top harness furthest forward of the BCM. It’s a bit of a stretch for the wire but it reaches and isn’t under pressure, careful how you route it tho. I’m trying to add pictures but not sure how.

Is it worth it? At the extreme discount and Now that I’m done , I think it’s a great upgrade and really brings an upscale feel to the car. At full price it is not worth it however, it’s far too expensive and a major PIA to install.

For the record, as technicians, we all despise those kits.

Thanks for confirming LOL. The positap is pretty cool but a bit of a pain in tight spaces. But man the wiring was so long. And how the hell is the right way to do the under-seat light screwing with the backing plate… I am not sure the way I did will hold lol

I dunno how the Q70 kit attaches, but permanently attaching the under-seat units is usually an invitation to disaster if the seat ever needs to be lifted in the future (or if some careless soul rolls a bottle underneath the wrong way). My advice is use a good quality double-stick and keep some extra in the toolkit or glove box.

Well I’m using the q60/q50 kit, but it works just the same on any car.

It does come with a backing plate that you double-sided tape onto the seat bottom, and then the light itself bolts onto it so it’s not too difficult to unbolt to do work on the seat. The hard part is finding a good location for the taping the backing, there’s no real « flat » area for it but I made it work… we’ll see if it lasts !
