I heard from my infiniti dealership that there is a disk that you can get to install nav onto a non-nav system, but i havent been able to find it and was wondering if anybody knows of it or better yet where i can find it? Or if i know someone with a toyota nav disk, would i be able to use that one?

thanks

There is not a disk that can give you nav on a non nav system. You have to buy the whole center console and change it out, which is tedious, time consuming and very expensive to the point to trade yours in for a nav.

I think it actually takes more than just swapping out the center console. I looked into this and to get some of the other options that come with NAV you have to swap the ECU (tied into nav and intelligence package) and add a different body harness. If there is a way to do it without doing what I mentioned I would be very interested. You have to consider that some of the other options that come with nav require other parts.

NAV
Different steering wheel controls
GPS
Harness
Rear CD changer

Back up Camera
Rear Camera control unit
NAV unit (as far as I know)
Harness
Different trunk trim

Adaptive cruise control
Different steering wheel
Front sensor
Different Cruise module
Harness
NAV unit installed

If it was just adding the NAV unit and other stuff it wouldn't be to bad, I've found the NAV units with the displays (which are different) for around $600, the rear camera computer for $125 and the camera for $65. I haven't verified what Infiniti told me about the harness being different and having to change the ECU out yet, or found a price on the rear changer. I kinda stopped looking after I realized it was going to be a major pain in the a** and decided I just wanted go-fast parts.

unfortunately it's not even as simple as buying the stuff and "swapping it out". the wiring harnesses simply are not the same across all models so you will likely not even have the necessary plugs to hook everything up. i spent alot of time researching it, believe me.

honestly your best bet is to buy a garmin gvn53 and hooking it up to your aux input in the armrest or go my route and install your own computer with garmin mobile PC or an equivalent.

sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings!

Remmy,

how did you override the no video when in drive/gear feature on the car?

Now. what you could do is get a gps that has video out and get a touch screen overlay and a vga convertor. and have gps that way on the screen. Press a button to switch to gps screen and not mess up music and press switch to go back to audo settings on screen.

Similar to the old argument of making a manual an automatic or vice versa...sometimes its better to just buy a new car.
