I got a 70 dollar gift card to best buy and i'd like to use it on a keyless entry system. Does anyone know how hard it is to install one of these in a 91 240sx, I don't really have too much knowledge with electrical things, has anyone ever done this?

Shouldn't have to difficult of time, most of you wires can be found in the drivers kickpanel & underdash. Ask you installer at best buy do make you a print out of the wiring for your car when you make the purchase. Which keyless entry system are you considering? Autoloc makes the most basic and most compact unit I've seen. They usually sell fro like $45.00, and don't have on-board relays for anything like light flash, or dome light surveillance.

I just want something really basic, something that will just lock and unlock my doors, thats all really. It would be cool if i could hook it up so that the lights like blinked once or something when i hit the lock button but i don't really need all that, as long as it would lock and unlock that would be fine. Also if i ever sold my 240 and got another 240 would i be able to switch the systems?

which model were they suggesting, b/c the DEI Valet 711t has built in on-board relays to operate almost every possible kind of door locks, except the newer databus vehicles like GM, and Chrysler. They just have different resistors or modules to connect. Yours should be either a one wire or negative pulse style system. What is the trim level on you S13? was the $150 an installed price? I'd guess that it is. Aren't you going to try and put it in yourself?

I have a SE, My door locks are like if you lock the drivers side then the passenger side locks, if you unlock the drivers side then the passanger side unlocks. I was going to put it in myself put the guy told me that installation was free because of some deal thing they had going on. Anyways the system was 100 dollars and he said for that relay i was looking at another 50.

YEAH! Free installation can be a good promotion. Just make sure you take care of the Installer. But what system were they selling? the only relay that has a retail price close to $50 dollars might be the DEI 451M, some of that price could be labor I suspect.

i don't remember what model, but i know they had that free install because they were no longer gonna carry that product so they need to get rid of it. i'll go to best buy and see which one it was.

Seems a little pricey for just remote control locks, what other features are also included? I would ask if parking light, and starter kill, and dome light surveillance are part of the pkg. I know it would be appropriate of the organizations to include those features where I’ve worked.

the 240 don't need another relay to unlock the doors. the 240 has a positive/negitive locking system. witch means if you put a positive signal it locks and a negitive signal unlocks. most alarms like the dei have that system build in. oh yea the wire you need Door Lock Orange/Black (-) Door Unlock Orange/Blue (-) for the door locks is in the kick pannel next to the fuse box.you can also hook your lights in witch isParking Lights Red/Blue Light Switch or Back of Dimmer

Hey, the 240 has negative style locks, where when the lock wire is pulsed with a grounded signal it locks, unlocking is the same, only using a different wire. This action activates one side of a coil in the factory door control Assembly. This system works the same on both the S13, and S14. Although, I have seen some of the 240sx models in the early years that had the same system as the 300zx. These required a relay that could open the circuit or pulse the same wire for locking and unlocking. I'm not sure what the determining factor for these models is but to test it. Try testing the wire when operating the locks. If the multi-meter read continuity to ground when you push the lock lever in one direction, and displays 000 when moved in the other direction, then it is a one wire system. If you cut the wire with a pair of Diagonal side cutters the doors should unlock. However, most of the 240s have the Negative style! Also some keyless systems require a couple of SPDT relays, due to very small current onboard circuits of 500ma or less for the locking/unlocking outputs. In either case good luck.

I tried installing a bulldog keyless on my 91 240 and i ended up destroying the module. Bull dog said you needed a relay and a diode.

Someone told me to buy an actuator(motor that is activated by electronic signal) and install to open door lock. that is what i am going to try. Presently, the lock is only physically actuated by you pulling door lever. Once the actuator is installed, it is much easier to hookup a keyless entry system because they are designed to work with a lock that is opened by eletronic actuation.

do a search of my posts in this forum. there was a discussion on this.
