As many of you know, it is is not really that easy to find an Infiniti JX35 that is exactly the way you want it, with a Tow Hitch on it. If you find the pefect JX35 and you need the hitch, you are looking at a good $300 or so to have the dealer install it. Or...........you can install it yourself! This is what I did, and I am glad I did and it saved me a lot of money. The Tow Package consists of (3) components.......Wiring Harness, Tow Receiver, & Finisher. The Finisher is actually the most difficult part to install because you have to be very precise with your drilling and cutting. The receiver is not bad, you need to lower the spare tire, and take one bolt out to drop down the Evaporator. Past that it is screwing in 10 massive screws that screw right into the frame. Wiring Harness requires some removal of the cargo area pieces.

Instructions are available online for the Receiver and the Harness, I have the finisher instructions as well if anyone needs them. Please feel free to post a message if anyone has questions. Here is a photo of the finished product:

I would love that information as well. Just got my wife the JX and she loves it. Need to set it up for tow now for the toys.

I purchased the three pieces from a friend of mine at an Infiniti dealer at cost and had them shipped to me, so was able to save ~$60. My local dealership installed the system for $100.00 (two hours at accessory charge). I thought that was pretty fair.

That is a HELL of a price for install! Great deal! Most dealers are closer to $300, so that is a fantastic value!

Hi guys, Have any of you installed an electric brake controller up front. I know that the wiring is preinstalled. Any specific location? Also, a question on the wiring harness... not for the 7 pin connector, but the one installed on the driver side. Do I assume it's used because the JX has LED rear lights. I only ask because I did not see this step in installing one for the Newest Pathfinder. Thanks in advance. Angrynerd.

No, can't say I know of anyone at this time. Really no reason to on a JX because of the 3500lb limit.

Thanks, Timmbo. We tow a small pop up for camping and anything with a GVWR of over 3000lbs in CT requires electic brakes. We had a pathfinder previously to tow it with. Too bad the JX didn't get the new Pathy's tranny to tow 5000lbs. Nice job on the hitch install!

Thanks a lot for the instructions, that is super helpful.

I just bought a JX35, dealer is quoting me $635 for just the parts for the tow package (with harness). Another $435 to install it.

Tempted to just buy the parts and install it myself....the Finisher part looks a bit daunting, though. Timmbo -- how long did it take you?

I only really need to haul my kid's bikes ....so $1100 installed seems crazy, $700 somewhat as well. A Hidden Hitch to fit the JX is only $180....has anyone seen one of those installed? If it would look OK, maybe I'll just go that route.

Any advice/input would be appreciated. Thanks.

It took me less than an hour to install he finisher, probably around 40 minutes or so. The hitch and harness are super easy. I am really glad I did it myself. Best advice???? Be patient, and triple check your work before drilling or making cuts. Don't over cut or over drill, you can always make an opening big, but certainly not smaller!!!

I too am looking for the simple hidden hitch. The dealer option is 500 for parts alone, they tried charging me 800 total...looks cleaner, but with the hidden hitch, you can take it off for the winter months if need be. This looks much easier to install..and it's only 160 bucks..

There are PDF instructions. I moved from a SVT raptor to the jx..and I had all hitch mounted bike racks (avid MBer). To conver everything over to roof racks, I'm looking at 400 starting. 160 dollars and a dream is good enough for me lol

Question is, what will it look like on your 50k + vehicle when installed? I would be cautious. There is no finisher piece or wiring harness either, and just so you know you can purchase the Infiniti hitch only (and finisher). All things to consider.

Wiring harness? They sell all sorts of kits that can be installed and removed. Fit and finish? For 150 dollars I think it looks good when viewed in the PDF document. To me it looks less gaudy than what infinity did integrating it in the lower rear panel. This will remain installed during mountain bike season..off season 6 bolts and its off and it will be right back to its slick look in the rear. If they did what they did with the QX, then I would consider the OEM install. But the JX OEM install looks like something in the back of a GMC. To me, it might be worth 400 DIY (might be), but def NOT 800 dealer install.

well the wiring harness is only needed if you are towing something, so its no a must have.

I looked at the aftermarket ones too, but I didn't like the fact of cutting a square to fit it thru. too many ways to make a mistake in my opinion.

I went with the OEM and got the install docs from Timmbo ahead of time before doing it all by myself. The finisher does make it look much nicer and hides some of the unclean cuts that I made.

good luck with either way you do it.

I installed mine yesterday without cutting anything. They want you to cut so it doesnt rub against the hitch, but when installed, it doesnt move so all its doing is pressing against it slightly. I too like OEM, but to me that 400+ dollars price tag, this is something that should come with the JX naturally. Also, i wish they came up with something like the QX56. Otherwise its looking no different than a GM product. You should supply the install info publicly just in case the originator goes missing from the forums and others can access the info anytime in the near or distant future. Agreed, whichever way you do it, good luck on the install, doesnt seem to be much support in regards to.

I too am wanting to install a tow kit on my jx. Dealer wants $650 for parts and 300+ for install. Uhaul will install wiring and receiver for $365 out the door. Holy cow. For you guys that Installed it yourself, did you get the parts from Infiniti or on the Internet? For a savings of $600 I don't need it to look just like Infiniti but I do want it clean and neat. Can anyone give me a good reason NOT to go to uhaul? I actually had a dealer tell me to do this instead of getting the tow package when I bought the car...any input is appreciated. Tia. Ps. Not doing heavy duty towing (jx not meant for that), just occasional SMALL trailer but mostly will be used for bike/luggage rack.

I just picked up a JX yesterday. The $700ish + installation cost that Infiniti wants to charge is kinda ridiculous.

I want the OEM look, but I want to get the parts outside of the dealer. Do we know which company manufactures the hitches for Nissan/Infiniti since I know they do not make it themselves.
