Installing Home Link Transmitter

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I purchased my 2010 EX 35 Journey (Dark Currant/Chestnut) a year ago. Though I had ordered the Premium package with the vehicle, it was delivered without that package, but I still accepted delivery. After a year, the only item I truly miss having is a Homelink transmitter built into the rear-view mirror. I've installed aftermarket mirrors with the transmitter in prior vehicles I've owned, but had to wire it into the vehicles wiring; however, since the existing auto-dim mirror in my EX is already linked into the vehicle's wiring, I would assume that replacing the mirror within an Infiniti-ordered auto-dimming mirror with Homelink built in would be a simple installation, not requiring any interior trim to be removed to hard-wire the item into the electrical system; I assume it would simply attached to the same wire(s) that are used for the auto-dim mirror. Am I correct?

We also bought a 2010 EX35 without Homelink but we negotiated the cost of installing an aftermarket homelink transmitter into the total purchase price. I went back to see how it was going once and the installer had the old mirror removed and the new mirror installed very quickly. I did not see any trim pieces removed other than a piece under the dash that covered the fuses...no biggee I'm guessing. The bottom line is the homelink works perfectly and there have been no issues with it or the vehicle so far.

Thanks Dale! I'm taking my vehicle in for its 12-month service tomorrow, and just wanted to have a sense for how much work is involved. I'll likely order the mirror at the dealership and possibly install it myself.

Just so you know, the aftermarket mirror in our EX35 is made by Gentex Mirror, part #50-GENK45A. This mirror has a compass in addition to the homelink.
