help;

just put head back on car (bought it in pieces).

manual says to match up chain with marks on sprcket. but i don't know where bottom sprocket is lined up on chain. i do not want to pull cover.

do i just set piston 1 to TDC and timing to 0 deg.

then put cam sprocket with pin at top and not worry about chain marks?

also

my cam sprocket clicks to a stop a few degrees to right of the top due to pressure on cams is this close enough

how does setting timing with distributor affect this timing or does it only affect when plug fires in relation to piston position.

thanks

umm timing marks need to be precise. also do you know if the valves are bent or not. this is an interference motor and unless you had top and bottom on top dead center when you installed head theres a good chance you may have taken out a valve or two. the timing mark for top dead center on the crank pulley is fine to use as refrence to set the bottom. but you dont know if the chain is right on the money.
