Hey guys,

I've been following this forum and finally decided to post after I got a call today from my dealer. My black on black auto arrives on September 4th! I've been waiting four months for this car! I live in Korea, so I had to pay an arm and a leg for it ($65,000) because of import taxes, but I think it'll be worth it.

Unfortunately, the Korean version only comes in one trim...it's a combination of Journey and Sport, I believe. You can't order any other options - there is one trim and one price period. Basically, all the coupes are fully loaded except for the hard drive (also, auto is the only transmission choice). My question is, then, can you purchase the hard drive separately and install it later? I asked my dealer about this, but he had no clue. If possible, I want to order one from a dealer in the States and have it installed since I can't order it as an option here.

Thanks in advance, and glad to finally "meet" you all.

Sid

Hey siddo! How is Korea?

I'm not quite sure on how the car is built in Korea but I know that any models that has the premium package in the US does have the hard drive no matter what. I don't think you will be able to purchase a hard drive separately and install it later. It seems to be that's like a factory-only option. I'm not quite sure how the dealership will be able to install it without taking the car apart, heh.

P.S. I'm Korean-American but I've never been to Korea. I do know that Seoul has the largest metropolitan area in the whole world (Tokyo coming in at #2 and I believe New York City at #3). My mom came from Pusan back in the 70s and I don't really remember the name where my father grew up. I asked my mom before what Pusan was like then and she told me that she has a hard time remembering what it even looked like.

Hey Yimbie,

Korea is alright. I'm in Seoul so the traffic is horrible, but there are a lot of nice cars around here. I live and work in Apkujeong, so Bentleys, Ferraris, Lambos, AMGs are a dime a dozen. Unfortunately, the cars here cost about double because of the tariffs, but the Infiniti mark up is only about 60% or so. BMW 335s go for around $85-90k here in Korea, so for me there was no choice. That's a $25-30k difference in price! It still gets to me that for the same price I could have gotten a ZO6 or something like that in the States, but there's not much I can do. Anyway, you should come out some time. Lots of nice cars and lots of nice girls.

I think that this--and many other modifications--will become available from Nissan and thrid-party retailers as time progresses. I'd wait a good 6-9 months to see what develops.

Hey Siddo, I saw the infiniti.co.kr website and looks like they should sell well since as you mention about $20,000 cheaper than BMW's with better technology in my opinion.

Have you seen any commercials on the Korean channels over there? I get KBS but not many commercials on that since it's marketed for the Korean-Americans.

I would love to see pictures of the car when you get it especially if you can squeeze in some hot Korean chicks hehe.

There are very few, if any, tv commercials for foreign cars here in Korea. I've seen a few print ads, but that's about it. The G37 did get a lot of press when it was unveiled at the Seoul Motor Show. Anyway, I'll take lots of pics when my car comes out in about two weeks. I'll try to throw in a few girls for you too.

Take pics of the car with good backgrounds! I want to at least get a little glimpse of where you live in South Korea, hehe. I'm looking forward to visiting my other "home" country although my Korean is so terrible. As my friends call me... I'm a banana... yellow on the outside and white on the inside. lol

Given the reported size, I wouldn't be too surprised if the hard drive in the G37 is likely one of the few speciality drives designed for extreme conditions, such as a Hitachi Endurastar J4K20. These drives are specifically built for rapid changes in cooling/heating, air pressure, vibration, moisture, etc. Assuming they didn't store the actual drive in the engine compartment or next to the heater/AC unit, I'd theorize that they went for a speciality drive due to the vibration/shock issues. [These things can handle up to ~100Gs!]
