I'm the happy owner of a new 2011 Rogue SV FWD, and don't want to tarnish the nice interior with an ugly garage remote. I'd like to put the remote in the dash, and it seems that the best place would be in the three-across button array by the driver's left knee. Since I don't have AWD, two of those three buttons are blank. A couple questions:

1: How easy is it to get behind that button panel to replace those buttons?
2: Can I buy a button to fit in one of those spaces from Nissan or elsewhere? Barring that, can I buy a blank to drill into to put a momentary switch in?

Thanks,
Matt

1. Should be pretty easy to remove. It just pops out. See page 19 of the IP.pdf document in the service manual here:

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Rogue/2011/

2. You might be able to modify one of the blank covers to make it look the same. I can't seem to find a replacement for any of the buttons, but that would have the default label on it still so it might be a bit confusing. If you plan on just cutting up a blank cover, you might want to grab an extra one just in case. You should be able to grab one from the dealer, or you can order it online here:

Edit: Bonk beat me to it.

Sounds like a cool project.

I am not to fond of the 2011 Rogue but congratulations on the purchase!

1) Check out the Rogue's factory service manual or FSM and see what's involved to get back there. You can find the Rogue's FSM in my signature under my post.
2) If I were you I would start here and find the part you are looking for. Then write down the part number and from there you can search the web for it or go to any NIssan dealership and they can get one for you. You can even just order from the site.

Keep us posted on the project and don't forget to introduce your self and the Rogue in General Chat.

I had to point this out:

It's a Nissan ROGUE. Many of us always get the spelling mixed up with Rogue (the color or cosmetics).

Definitely cruise on over to GC... always lots of interesting stuff going on there.

All you have to do is pull the whole panel out...maybe with the help of screw driver and then you can just pull the button out by pushing it from inside. Then drill it anyway you like. Here's the example where I installed switch for fog lights:

I've finally gotten around to starting this project, and I can't for the life of my figure out how to get this panel off. The manual that AppleBonker referred me to mentions "pawls" and some fancy remover tool. How do I get these things out without this tool, and without breaking the pawls?

Thanks,
Matt

Never mind. Figured out that I just had to go for it and pry it out. I've gotten one of the blanks out now, and will be modifying it for the garage door remote.

Thanks all!

Looking at you posts, How do you set up the hand received of the garage door remote to work off of a button ? And where are you placing the remote? I thought they had to be out in the open

Yeah, I am curious, do you have something that learns the garage codes?

Post a pic when your done please! Very interested in seeing how you are doing this. If you change your mind theres always the option to swap out your rear view mirror with the.... Altimas i think. It has a compass and the 3 button homelink system built in.
