Ok all,

I searched for this and didn't find a clear answer...

What is the proper procedure for installing the front crank seal?

Does the flat side of the seal face the radiator or the crankshaft?

Is this thing supposed to fit snug to the crank snout or at least close? I have about a 1/2" clearance on mine all around.... curious as to the p/n as I may be installing the wrong seals...

This is the second one I have installed and the oil is pouring out of it...

I used a 1 5/8" socket to ease it into the bore as carefully as I could..

I bump it with the starter before putting the crank pulley back on to see if it will hold...(they dont) I had to reuse the second one I banged up installing because I thought I put it in backwards as it was sunday and noone was open...I now have the pulley back on and the oil just streams!!!

Please help... I may have gouged the timing cover surface getting the @!#% pulley off.. so may have to replace that if I am indeed installing it correctly..

Sorry for the length,

Andrew

there are seals driver kit you can purchase.... otherwise... find the right size of socket and use it to install the seal.

the lip on the seal should face the pulley, while the side with the spring faces the crank.

I always tap it in until it cannot go in any further with equal depth all around..

remember to coat the seal in fresh engine oil prior to install

and so far I've always used flat head screw driver to pop the seal off, never got the timing cover gouged. Not a single leak after install.. Maybe I'm just lucky..
