installing cluster

whats up all, im replacing my old non working speedometer cluster with a new digi cluster, anyone who has done this job runs into the same problem, you cant get the plastic covering over the damn tilt handle, well someone suggested lowering the steering column by loosening four fasteners at its base, can anyone tell me if this is smart and if so, what size are the fasteners on the bottom of the steering column

It won't hurt it drop the steering colum. Its TWO 12mm bolts (there goldish). When you go and remove the plastic bezel type thing, go and push the tilt lever all the way down and hold it there while you get the plastic thing over it.

its 4 bolts, 2 12mm and 2 14mm i believe. the entire column will drop out of the way, allowing you to remove the cluster surround.

im about to replace my gauge cluster, with a working one also. How do I go about getting the old one out??
