Installing Around View Monitor later on

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

When I bought my EX, I skipped the tech package thinking that it is not worth it. Now I feel that the around view monitor can be very useful for my wife in tough parking situations, to prevent curb damage, etc. Is it actually possible to get this installed on an EX that didn't come with it out of factory? I wonder how costly it would be if it is possible.

I think you're gonna be S.O.L.

X2.. Your talking about adding new side mirrors and the camera in the front. As well as anything else that needs to be added radio wise.

I am sure price wise you would be better off selling your current EX35 and purchasing a new EX35 with the all around cameras!!! Sorry for the bad news!

yep, that's pretty much the only way you are going to get it.....that's why I got one with every single option available and no regrets!

I wouldnt say its totally impossible. I would think (I havent looked into this but its my assumption) its just the mirrors and front camera. As long as the car is equipped with nav then it should just be running the wires and plugging it in. Im sure infiniti did not make a seperate nav system for cars without the tech package and Im almost willing to bet that there are plugs in the wire harness for themalready as well since they are mass produced.

I would look into it if you really are interested.

I was looking at pricing for camera replacements a while back and even with a discount the cameras were over $400 each. So three new cameras alone would be over $1200.

I would doubt there are two different version of the NAV head also. Checking online you should be able to get a basic list of parts and determine if the a car with AVM has a different part number for the NAV head.

Finding a wrecked EX with AVM could help keep the costs down.

We can certainly do without it if it is going to cost a fortune. I would be curious how much it would cost though. I have the nav package already installed.

I'd be VERY surprised if that was the extent of it - at the very least, I would expect a firmware update to remap the buttons on the multi-function control panel ... buttons shown on p.4-2 have to behave like the ones depicted on p.4-3. Yes, there's a possibility that the wiring is all there and the head unit will just "detect" the cameras if they're plugged in, dynamically reconfiguring itself, but I doubt it.

One indicator might be whether your external mirrors have a plug where the camera is located on AVM-equipped models, or if completely different mirrors have to be purchased.

Cheers,David

mirrors with cameras are molded with the camera fittings. I'm going to guess that a mirror without camera doesn't even have a belly button for where the camera would go. I may never buy another car without around view....once you get used to it it works SO well.

AVM mirrors are around 1200 for the entire mirror setup if I recall. I have my car in the shop and had some minor damage to the mirror and the guy asked which mirrir I had b/c he couldn't believe a mirror wouldcost that much. (No I don't have the AVM)

thanks, I'll be sure and be extra careful when pulling in and out of the garage.
