I am finally going to get around to installing my T28 that has been sitting around in a box since January and god knows how long before then.

Question is this, can I run a bit of oil down the oil feed of the center section to kinda "pre-lube" the turbo? Are there any drawbacks to having a turbo sit for that long? It just has been sitting in a box, wrapped in plastic, on a couch in my office or 6 months.

Also, I just freakin notice that it looks like 2 of the 5 o2 housing studs are broke off in the housing. I bought a new o2 housing and it comes with new studs. I don't think I am going to be able to get the old one's out so I am thinking of doing this. Measuring down how many threads it will go down, about 3-4, hacking the rest of the stud off, and JB welding the stud into the turbo for a good seal. I know 3 bolts isn't going to hold very well and I have to have all five. Any ideas?

Joe

BTW... Jonathan if you are reading this, downpipe is on its way. You will need to make a trip to home depot though for bolts to hold it to the cat. The HKS one didn't come with new hardware.

Use an E-Z-out to remove the broken studs, available at NAPA, Pep Boys, etc.

It will leak if you don't.

Well, chances are that they broke because they are seized in the housing, so I don't think a bolt remover will work.

Try and heat it up, drill it out and helicoil if you must.

you could drill the center, torch the exhaust housing, then try the easy out, hoping that the housing will expand enough.

are they broke off inside the housing, or is there some stud sticking out? you could take it to a machine shop, or any place else that can weld good, and have them weld a threaded section atop the broken stud. Only issue w/ that would be clearance issues for the stud hole.

Just a few days ago I noticed one of the bolts for the lifting bracket broken off in my CA's head. Went to Sears and bought their bolt removal kit. 5 drill bits, 5 reverse-thread extractors, 18 bucks. Worked great, I was done in like 10 minutes. Just be careful not to break off the bits/extractors in the bolt, or you'll be stuck going the welding route.
