factory service manual. It will have all the diagrams of were the vacume hoses go, and were all the senors are. Just make sure to mark as much stuff as you can as you take it apart , in fact if you have a digital camera taking lots of pictures or how things are hooked up could help ALOT.

Take out your old engine with transmission.Bolt transmission up to new block then do everythign reversed. I started buy disconnecting my fans and removing radiator.Going to disconect your exhaust after the header. After the motor and transmission mounts. All you got left is unplugging sensors and a couple vaccums. Make sure you disconnect all the grounds that come off your battery. Also a coupel that go to the firewall. It's not hard at all but just time consuming. You'll need a 10,12,14 and 17mm socket/wrench.Along with maybe scre driver or 2. While you have your new engine I suggest replacing vaccum line or at least checking them.Because easy to replace when engine is out.

Installing a motor is quite easy, the only hard part is putting the transmission on the block unless you take your transmission and engine out at the same time then i'll be easier. I just finish installing a 96 ka24de into my 91 240 and it's pretty straight forward. You just gotta change the exhaust and intake mani. I'm about to do a write up later on but I gotta go work..

Wish I had a write up to give you, but I don't know of one. But as long as you have some pretty basic knowledge, it should be OK. I've only been working on cars for about 2 years, and I just about finished swapping a new KA into mine. I was scared to start, but I had to, and it turned out to be not as complicated as I thought, but still time consuming.

A couple things I can strongly recomend.

1. Go buy some ziploc bags, and everytime you take the bolts out of something, put them in a bag and label the bag with a marker. You definately don't want to be trying to figure out where bolts go.

2. Make sure that you put the heater hoses on the new engine before it goes in the car. I forgot to put on the one that goes up under the intake manifold, and I spent 30 minutes playing finger yoga trying to get that thing on. Plus my arms got all cut up.

3. Anything that you aren't really familiar with should be labeled. If you don't know where a specific conection goes, just tag it with some masking tape so that you don't have to come on here and ask where a bunch of harness conections go. They might try and flame you.

But good luck man.

As he said, label anything and everything that you can.You dont want to go searching, wasting time looking for bolts and pieces.

As somebody already said, its way easier to take the engine out with the transmission at the same time. It makes it much easier to realign the engine and the transmission when they are both out. It took me 4 hours to realign the engine into the transmission when I didnt take the transmission out. In those 4 hours I wasted I couldve took the engine out with the transmission and put it back in.

drain transmission fluid, if you pull both at the same time, or garage will be a big nasty slip n slide

make sure the head lights are down before you take out the battery, or youll get a nice deep gouge in you paint

Unbolt the A/C compressor from the engine, but leave the lines attached. That way you don't have to recharge the system afterward.

Also, don't forget to remove the shifter knob inside the car.

Oh, also, if you separate the driveshaft just behind the carrier bearing, it's VERY easy to put back together with the yoke/front shaft assembly in the trans. Just push the rear half up there, bolt it up and be done with it.

Have fun, stay safe and keep your hands, head, feet, etc. out from under the engine/trans at ALL TIMES when it's suspended by a hoist.
