I know installing a FMIC is supposed to be a joke but I am having trouble figuring out which bracket to use. The japanese instructions said to use part #5 which is the bracket holding up the front mount in this picture.

I also tried it with that same bracket turned the other way but still the lower ends didn't look like it would bolt to anything for support.

I also already took a look at sr20.hybrids.jp install, they just have a couple of pictures and I can't make out what bracket they used and where they bolted the bottom supports to.

Is that a 13 or a 14?

That intercooler is hanging WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too low if that is a 13. It actually looks too low for a 14 too.

And for the lower brackets, are there any other brackets that could bolt to the body, then to those brackets? My GReddy kit was like that.

EDIT: Try that smaller bracket that you have sitting on top of the core in the first pic.

It is a s13, I know it is to low, the only other way is if I flip that same bracket but then it sits sort of high and pretty far out. Is there supposed to be quite a bit of room between the actual front mount and where it bolts up?

And those were the only brackets included for the bottom, the others were weird shaped ones for relocating the washer fluid.

I'm goin with Bud on this one. Definately try that smaller L shaped bracket to bolt it up and everything should line up a lot better. It looks about the same size as the one I used with my Blitz kit.

Ya, I just figured out I had to use the smaller bracket. What threw me off was the instructions said to use the enormous one, and on that small bracket the holes weren't large enough for the supplied bolts so i had to drill the holes larger. Also I ruled out the small bracket because it wouldn't bolt up, the IC was hitting the headlight supports which stick out quite far on the fastback. In the end I had to cut a bit out of the headlight supports on both sides and use the small bracket. Thanks for the help guys.

Umm ok it looks like the placement is alright but none of the lower brackets line up properly.

Anyone with a hks have a picture of their setup? Thanks.

i went through the same BS with my greddy i tossed the lower brakets and went to the hardware store bought some l - brakets and drilled a few holes and fininshed up a hour later they were a lil long but i cut them down and finished the edges with a grinder turned out just right also kept the steel bumper reinforcement just cut out the section between the mount with a plasma nice and strong still no sag you stand on the bumper cover still and if i bump someone i might have some hope

I think that was the longest run-on sentance I've ever heard in my whole life.

Why dont u just use that bracket...cut 2" off the top, and drill another whole? would seem pretty obvious to me....?.....

Hmmm. I have no problem with my Greddy Vspl. It lined up great. The only thing bad about it is no instruction.

I thought about trying that but then bottom brackets wouldn't line up.

Ya, I did a little research and found out that HKS makes two different FMIC kits for s13's with SR's.One for the 180sx front end in japan and one of the US 240's with pop up headlights.I received the one for the 180 front end.The front end on the US has the large headlight supports which stick out MUCH further than the 180's.I shot you an email anyways just because I'd like to see the english instructions.

You guys have it all wrong... The large braket does go on top... The two small ones go on the bottom... The FMIC DOES NOT mount completely verticle like the greddy or blitz. It is supposed to be angled back. The large braket is place like an upside down 'L' .................................Bolt through here to top of FMIC........................................................| .......................................................\/ \--------------------------------------------------.\..\...<-Bolt through here to the car....\

This will put a significant angle on the FMIC, but that is how it is supposed to be. You CAN NOT use the bumper support with this FMIC. I'll try to find a pic of the HKS one mounted...

So it IS supposed to look like this?

I test fit it this way once before but figured the angle was a bit extreme since all the pictures of other s13 front mounts I have seen are fairly vertical.

Yes, that is exactly how it's supposed to look! Unlike every other FMIC, it mounts on an angle. Don't worry about it, I was shocked and confused at first too. Now go ahead and finnish the job.:D :rockon

It fits like that with the stock bumper?

Now that I think about it, Richards car had an HKS front mount, and I did notice it sitting at a slightly higher angle than my car, but that looks a little extreme.

Holy s***!! haha. That is one hell of an angle. Mine sits almost vertical where the bottom goes in slightly that you can barely notice by looking at it from the front.

That is an HKS Type S FMIC... I have put on two so far, and that is the correct way to do it, it fits no problem. The Type R sits a slightly more verticle angle. The smaller 'L' bracket is for relocating the windsheild washer tank.

No kidding.

Glad you could help us out with this, GTR. I would have never believed it sat at that extreme of an angle.

Helping people is what forums are for... The IC fits no probelm at all under the stock bumper. You have to do a little triming to the inside of the bumper. IE remove some of the plastic that protrudes from the 'mouth'.
