As the back seat in my 240sx hatch is pretty worthless (unless you're under 5 foot 2), I was thinking of removing the back seats, and installing a single front seat in lieu of the back seats, turning the car into essentially a 3 seater. I would weld the mounting rails down in the back. I was wondering if anyone has done this, and is anyone had possible suggestions for how to approach this? I did a search and was not able to come up with anything. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have never seen anyone do that... it might be neat..

On an S14, it wouldn't work at all... in an S13, I can see it... but don't know if it will actually pan out..

try 2 seats in the back!?!? that might be cool...

I was thinking about doing two seats, but then I got to do more thinking and with only one seat in the back. I can move the 2 12 in subs I have already to be one on each side of the seat and angled backwards. If someone is sitting back there, I can turn off the subs as to not make them deaf. Also, this way, I'll still have a semi functional trunk because as of now, ALL I have in the trunk is the subs and enough space for maybe a backpack.

I'm sure it can be done, like in the Fast and the Frivilous, Jesse's Jetta had 2 or 3 (can't remember) bucket seats in the back. However, that was a 4 door, don't know how comfortable it will be in a 240.

well if you mean to put it in the center, wait till you remove the stock one...youl'l realize that the center of the sheetmetal in the car is as high as your armrest

the idea is bunk, unfortunately, the best way to make it functional is to rig up some new covering to replace teh stock seats that is very thin, therefore making mroe room...w/o the seat backs, it's not so bad really...i have had people sit on the bare metal...but it was dangerous and i dont think i'd do it outside of an emergency situation

Thanks!Unfortunately, I wont have access to my car for another week so I have not been able to see for myself the center hump. Seeing you have seen the back of the car stripped, do you think spacewise it possible to fabricate a seat around the center hump (slapping a cushion on the center hump and then building a back of a seat coming up from behind the cushion). If you dont think spacewise it is feasible, I might not even take out my back seats and just live with it as is.

if you did fabricate something there, and you ever had someone sit there you wouldn't be able to see out the back.

a while back i was thinking of fabricating a fiberglass bucket seat to replace the rears...then i didnt do it cuz i dont work w/ fiberglass and i'd rather just make my car a 2 seater

I would take out the seat but I just leave it in so I don't get hassled at AutoX. I should take it out now since I'm turbo and going to be put in a SM class anyways,

I have actually drawn up several pages of sketches and plans of some way to cram in 4 Sparco Pro2000's in an S13.

Now if only I had some exact measurements and lots of money
