...do you have to lower the transmission to get that bottom plate on? I just ordered my shifter today and I'm already having nightmares about lowering that transmission. Not that I havnt already done it a million times before, its just on this particular car the transmission support x-member is in there really tight and it was a HUGE pain to get on..... soooo am I going to have to lower all that or will I be able to get the shifter on without messing with the transmission/driveshaft?

There are two bolts on the plate that are up towards the console. You have to feel for these two and put a closed end wrench around and turn if you have big hands it will be a pita.A crafts. reversible wrench is nice for that tight spot. Nope never lowered transmission on my friends s13 when I installed it.

http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=84837Here is some pics I took of my install and the tools I used. I didn`t lower my transmission to get to those 2 bolts. 6 bolts in all in my pic you can only see 4 there is 2 more closer to the engine. I used craftsman ratchet open end. Made the job easier. All you have to do is jack up the car so you can get under the car to remove those 2 #(*&^@#*&^% bolts. Dam why did Nissan do that what a PITA. Other then that it is a piece of cake. You might have to pull hard to get that shifter out because of the plastic bushing on the end of the shifter. Have fun and oh yea even with the new improved shifter still makes noise.

You don't have to lower the transmission, you can get to the two front bolts from inside the car, or reach from underneath. I found it easier to get to it from underneath the car, but i didn't have a driveshaft on at the time, so i would see if you can reach it from there. Remember to use silicon sealer

i guess its a bit different on the s14...i just installed my B&M shifter and i had to lower the transmission just enough to remove those 2 fronts bolts...there wasn't enough room to remove the bolts if i didn't lower the transmission. but it was a ***** to loosen the 2 bolts...

but other than that it was a piece of cake i assume mine is the new version but it still makes noise, plus i have nismo transmission mounts which doesn't help any, but holy crap the shifter is NICE!!!
