So I've been fighting this mod bug for the longest, and like a good addict...I fell victim to the habit. I need an intervention before it's too late.

I bought spings. Like a dummy, I impulse bought Tanabe springs before doing research. They're supposed to drop 1" Rear/1.5" Front with a nice spring rate to match luxury sedan quality (sounds nice). So the more I started reading different forum reviews, the more complaints popped up about not lowering the front enough or lowering the rear too much. Basically more complaints about an uneven drop. I didn't want to deal with the headaches. Not to say they wouldn't work well, but I just felt like going a different route.

Before I go further...yes, I did think of coilovers (had them on my G35 coupe), but didn't think for my daily driving & the cost value it would be worth it. I'm not looking for huge globs of handling improvements or an aggressive drop, just enough to get me around corners and a decent looking drop while I"m doing it.

So during all this research, good reviews kept popping up from Eibach springs. Owners of M35/M45's were very pleased for the most part. Doesn't seem M35x owners felt the same (different suspension?). As we all know, there are some huge tire/fender gaps on the M. I was looking for a spring to provide a drop to accomodate the front more than the back. Here's what I found for M35 non-sport:

Tanabe NF210 springs:Years: 2005-2007 Spring Rate F/R: 6.4 / 8.7 Drop F/R: 1.5 / 1.0 Part#: TNF118MSRP: $290.00 Website: http://www.tanabe-usa.com/spri...?id=2

Espelir ESA072 springs:Years: 2006-2007Spring Rate: N/ADrop F/R: 1.2/1.2Part#: ESA072MSRP: $300Website: http://group5motorsport.com/es....aspx

Tein S Tech:Years: 2006-2007Spring Rate: 7.6/10Drop F/R: 1.8/1.1Part#: SKP60-AUB00MSRP: $350http://www.tein.com/products/s....html

Tein H Tech:Years: 2006-2007Spring Rate: 7.6/9.2Drop F/R: 1.2/ .5Part#: SKP60-BUB00MSRP: $390Website: http://www.tein.com/products/h....html

Eibach Pro-Kit:Years: 2006-2007Spring Rate: N/ADrop F/R: 1.6/ 1.0Part#: 6376.140MSRP: $300Website: http://eibach.com/cgi-bin/html...23864

Trying to do spring research was difficult because all the different websites/forums & threads. Can the moderators think of making this a sticky for ease of future researchers? Didn't see something like this yet, but could be helpful to M owners. And maybe other's can post their reviews on their springs.

So I ended up with Eibach.

Install: went to a local shop and they installed for $200 flat (could have been cheaper, but they got me in the same day and out within 2 hours-on a time crunch). Also think because I brought in the springs instead of buying thru them.

Measurements: Took measurements before and after drop. Still waiting for springs to settle in, but initial measurements are avg 1.6 (Front)/1.0 (Rear). Just like the box says :D About 1 finger gap all around now. Before it was about 4 in front and 2 or 3 in back. Measured 2 ways: from ground to fender edge. And top of rim to fender edge. All around and both ways came up with same results (see pics).

Camber: The rear camber don't look too bad, but can definitely tell the front has negative numbers. Haven't done an alignment yet, but I'll pop up results later. If the car/drop were to stay just like it is, no problem. I'm hoping the camber doesn't get worse as they settle in. I'm rolling on stock 18" wheels for now, so maybe that's another reason camber stands out. Planning on 20x8.5 (front) and 20x10 (rear) so I hope they fit with this drop. Is there a camber kit for M35?

Handling: As you guessed, the handling definitely feels better. Not much body roll like before. I've driven around some of the lousiest roads/freeways in Los Angeles and doesn't feel rough at all. I wish I knew the spring rates, but overall the handling/suspension feels better than before. I was expecting a very harsh ride, but it doesn't feel too far from stock ride. Haven't bottomed out/scaped (knock on wood), and no noticable difference going over speedbumps (says wifey).

My bottom line: Great springs, great looking drop, okay camber, and good handling. No regrets on buying/installing...hell they were only $220 :D

If these don't work out...coilover review is next :D

Hey Lawman - noticed you have aftermarket wheels -- what size/offsets?

Do you think 20x8.5 +36 (Front) and 20x10 +38 (Rear) would fit? Now I'm looking for wheels to sit flush with fender, but not too aggressive.

Thanks.

Funny, the post is all about static looks and totally ignores dynamic performance.

But if stretching tires is mentioned, one knows performance and safety is a very low priority.

As I understand it, coilovers for these cars cost $2500 to $3000 ... plus extra for installation.

Coilovers are definetly more expensive then just springs and not for everyone.

But you are getting a "total" package spring and strut replacement that have been R&D'ed to work with each other, not to mention the custom height and damper adjustability to your own specs not what the spring factory sets out for you.

I have never seen CO for the M starting at $2,500, let alone costing $3K... but like I said they are not for everyone. I personally would do the CO's over the springs everytime.

Yfiddy, those offset specs would fit easy. I assume you are gonig to run the tires fat... 245 in front and 275 in the rear.

The fronts you can ever go a tad bit lower offset to push them out a bit... I am 20x8.5, +36 offset and I want to push mine out to +31 offsets to make the fronts more flush. My rears are +38 now and are pretty flush. I would not mind them to be at +36, but thats fairly aggresive for fat tires...

not a good pic to see but you can see my wheel specs on the M... I dont' know how much I am lowered on my COs but they are lower then your springs and no rubbage at all. They can easily be pushed out a mm or so...

Agreed that they make a lot of technical and performance sense, but the cost is a big deterrent.

I got some info on coilovers from Japan for my Y34 (2003 M45) and that price tag seemed too much for me (I was quoted about $2600 for a set). Particularly when the replacement struts (when they eventually do die) have to be bought from the same coilover manufacturer company and they can charge an arm and a leg for these!

A big Yikes, IMHO.

After having them on there for a bit, how is the ride quality. I ask again because you didn't install struts did you?

So, does the M35 have bump stops? The M35x DOES NOT. It may be your shocks that you bottom out on!

The ride quality is still great compared to stock. If I had to put a number of ride quality, I'd give stock about a 8 and the springs a high 7. I'd give my G35 coupe on coilovers a 5 (hard, but sporty ride).

Haven't done an alignment yet, but haven't really made it a priority since camber doesn't look too bad. Will get the alignment in about 100 more miles.

No bottoming out here :D and I'm rockin' OEM struts.

Still haven't made a choice on these damn wheels...UGHGH!! It's either the black VS-XX or now I have my eyes on Volk Progressiv TS in formula silver.

I'm sure I'll get flammed for this, but IMHO black wheels look good on hard core sports cars but look kinda out of place on luxury sport sedans. That plus the fact that every other Dodge Neon that I see these days has black wheels with a polished lip made me go with silver wheels. But it's your car, do what you like and don't worry about other's opinions.

(End of opinion, F1SportsFan puts on flame retardant suit)

I was also planning to lower my M35x. Does anyone know if the Tanabe NF210 will work on this AWD vehicle? Perhaps someone has already done this? I contacted the manufacturer and apparently due to the lack of AWD infiniti's in Southern California they are unable to test it. They did mention that people on the forums have sucessfully installed them but I have yet to come across a post verifying this.

I know the Espiler springs will work on the X, however I don't want to wait a month or pay $400 to fedex directly from japan. Any help/recomendations would be appreciated!

sorry to jack...

yes, JP exhaust Type III. Mufflers only, not cat back. Comes with either one or dual tips, tips are adustable as well (pull in or out, stagger or even)

I got straight from JP but know vendors if you need a source.
