So I finally replaced the crappy Dunlop A320 tires on my 2004 QX56 with a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers and love them so far. However, I wanted a slightly larger tire size so I went with the 275 70 18s instead of the OEM size 265 70 18s. Not much of a size change but what do you know, the front tires are actually rubbing the splash guards if I turn the wheels hard to either side. I asked several people about increasing the tire size (even the dealer) and everyone said I shouldn't have any problems with the 275 70s. I've inspected the rub spot and I could try to shave down guards in the spots where the tires rub but I thought I might try and find slightly thinner splash guards, like maybe some aftermarket brand that fits the QX56. Anyone know of a solution here? There have got to be people out there that have installed larger tires ..wondering if they have the same problem as me. Please advise ...thanks!

Steve

Why not just remove the splash guards?

Well, I want splash guards because they do provide a benefit and my truck will probably look goofy if I remove them. My first choice would be find slimmer ones but if I can't find them, I'll just take the originals off, shave off a few thin layers in the area when they rub, and reinstall. The tires just barely touch them and it's only when I turn the wheels hard left or right but you can feel it in the steering wheel when they contact each other. The tire shop that installed them told me about it before I even drove the truck away.
