Thanks for help with installing my new fuel pump. I installed it and it didn't work. I replaced the fuel pump control unit and checked the fuel filter, which is clear. After I installed the control unit, the pump turned on, hummed more loudly than the one that died on me-but didn't pump any gas. So the pump seems to be functioning without actually pumping the gas. I took it out, put it in a bucket with gas, it turned on but it didn't pump gas. I am stuck-it seems the pump is defective. If you have any advice for me, please let me know-Thanks,Mike

Where did the FPCU come from?

I bought it on ebay. It was used but said to be in working condition.

correction-I bought the fuel pump on ebay. I pulled the control unit from a wreck at a junk yard. The pump didn't run with the old unit but appears to be running (without pumping gas) with the new one. Do you think the unit still may be bad even though it seems to be sending current to the pump?

Let me get this straight.

You are installing a used fule pump? If so, did you recondition the armature?

Hook the pump up to 12volts and make sure it works... If the FPCU is known to be good, then you need to look at the possibility of a bad ground.

The fuel pump hums, seems to operate-but no fuel is being pumped. What is the armature? Any ideas of what could be wrong with a fuel pump that seems to be working but doesn't pump gas?

If you connected it to a 12v power source and it isnt pumping any fuel, its defective. Fuel systems on older Nissans are a pain, so its best to always buy new OEM parts. But, if you have to buy used, go with a wrecking yard that allows returns.
