2 weeks ago I decided to get backup sensors installed in the bumper of my pathfinder. Having driven a lot of newer vehicles which have this option, it’s a great feature to have on a suv....especially parking in tight spaced in the city. My wife also liked the idea.

I found a local tuner shop (same place which I bought my HIDs from) and they gave me a good deal on the sensors. $200 installed and paint matched. The sensors themselves were about $80 I think but I deffinatly wasn't going to attempt cutting holes in the bumper. It took them about 3 hours for the install.

There are 4 sensors evenly spread across the bumper, a "brain" unit in the trunk area near the factory amp and then a small display which they hid in the drawer for the fuses...to the left of the steering wheel.

The sensors pick up objects starting at 1.3 meters (about 4 feet) and then (beeping gets faster and faster) down to 0.2 meters I think which is a bit over a foot of space when the beeping is just a solid beep, so it will never allow me to hit anything.

The beep sound isn’t as loud as the ones on newer BMW’s or Mercedes since those systems use the stereo speakers to project the sound, but that is a much more complicated and expensive system. This is just a nice cheap add-on but still looks like stock. And I probably have the only 01-04 Pathfinder around with the sensors

Great idea! They look great too! I have sensors in my other cars, so some times when I back up in the Q I forget I don't have them! It really is a great feature.

nope, the shop painted them for me. they were originally black.

Found a can of Nissan-match spray paint at Canadian Tire that was close to my bumpers. I bought a few different shades before I found the correct match though.

Does it have a cancel feature for when you are towing? Ford pickups have one but you have to hit it every time you start the vehicle.

no, it doesnt have any way to turn it off except if I unplugged it (prob wouldnt be too hard to do if i needed to). but, i dont have a tow hitch so I wont be towing any trailers any time soon.

0.2 meters is about 7.9", not a bit over a foot.

Lookin' sweet. $200 for the sensors + install? That's $40 an hour for labour, not bad, I've seen way higher.

I work downtown and parallel parking is always tight, but I just popped a rubber hitch cover on and go back gently. If I bump them, no harm no foul. Worst was a rubber mark that came off with a bit of spit.

Now, if you can install parking sensors on the front and hook up the horn to it, so idiots won't back into *my* front bumper... now we're talking.

nice work! that is really cheap especially for being installed for you

how do you hear the warning sound? does it come through its own speaker or do you have it wired to your car speakers?

the sound comes from the little display unit. so if i close that fuse drawer, the sound isnt as loud.

I would preffer it be wired to the speakers but thats a much more expensive system to install and buy. This one works fine for me for now. Its loud enough (with the music turned down) to hear the beeping when backing up but not super loud so it gets annoying or everyone in the vehicle hears it.

Hey Holidazed. I was just checkin to see if you knew what brand those backup sensors you got were. I'm thinking of getting some installed on my pathy as well. And its been about six months since your post, how are you liking them?
