I bought a new fuel pump from Joe and installed it last week. I'd had the swarm of bees in the trunk for a year since I bought the car and figured it was time to do it before I got stranded with a bad fuel pump and FPCU.

I followed Tangalora's DIY writeup and completed the swap in about 2 1/2 hours. It was really very easy and most of the time was spent removing and reinstalling the rear seat and deck. Swapping out the fuel pump took just a few minutes.

The reason I'm posting is it has made a noticable difference in performance. The car accelerates much smoother and overall feels a lot stronger. Gas mileage is in the 16 mpg range when it's always been in the 14's to low 15's. (I've only used one tank of gas so I know it's a little early to boast too much about gas mileage).

I would recommend a new fuel pump to anyone who has the swarming bee syndrome in their trunk. Pump and o-ring were about $230 from Joe and if my gas mileage has really increased it will pay for itself in about 6 months.

Luckily most with a bad fuel pump don't do a lot of WOT accelerations frequently...................as this lean mixture really overheats the cats and causes them to shatter and fail.

Be careful of the FPCU............have seen them stressed and damaged and just hanging on by a tread from the overheating of the old pump.

Acquire a working spare [junkyard, ebay, member] at your leisure and keep in the trunk for that day...........always good to have a jumper wire with alligator clips on both ends to bypass FPCU.
