I have recently finished my resto on my 1991 Q. Only took me 7 months. I installed a 1993 trans ecu, along with the requisite trans cooler. Now I am not able to shift my trans into 2nd or 1st manually. It simply will not go south of 3rd.

thanks for your help

Doesn't sound normal... do you get the ability to downshift manually back if you put your old TCU back?

If you unplug the TCU, the car will stay in 3rd. I did this when I went to the Dyno so the car would not donwshift.

Sounds like a dead TCU to me.

Or a TCU who's pins didn't mate up with the connector properly. Since it's a long connector it needs to be wiggled as it's tightened to make sure it seats flush (parallel) with the TCU pins. The TCU connector and the ECU connector are easy to install crooked.
