Anyone know if the NAV can be added to to the F50's. I've got my eye on 2 that are at good prices, but lack NAV. That's something I really need or at least want. One dealer mentioned finding a modual at junkyard and adding it. Or even add an aftermarket nav system. Anyone?

I think both ideas are would be relatively impractical, if by adding you mean an in-dash module.

Adding factory is quite a bit more difficult than just adding the nav brain, in addition, you need a new screen, the dvd module, antenna, speed sensors and gyros, etc, and then the trouble of wiring all that through the car.

Adding an aftermarket unit seems a difficult proposition in the F50 Q as well as there is no din or double din spot, unless perhaps you could add a single din flip out unit where the tape player or cd changer is? Though I don't think that would look good, if the factory look is what you're after.

I would suggest if factory (looking) nav is what you're after in an F50, you keep shopping.

I agree. Every time I have checked in to something like this I get the whole "the main harness is different" answer. Like trying to convert an early 90s Maxima from manual to automatic climate control. The other option would be to just go with a stand - alone NAV unit. I'm pretty happy with mine - but in-dash would be nicer

There is a TSB listing the serial numbers where the cable is present and where it is not.

Keep in mind that roads and their numbers change and that businesses come and go. The NAV systems must be updated every two years. New DVDs cost $170!

I have it on my 2005 Q45, and consider it an unnecessary frill. I never use it, maybe because I always know where I'm going and how to get there. A map helps too.

FWIW, factory installed Infiniti NAV also includes GPS. That big ugly black thing you see on the rear of the roof on a NAV equipped F50 is the GPS antennae.

I use a Garmin Nuvi GPS and stick it on the F50 LCD monitor when needed (illegal to use suction cup on windshield/windows in CA). You can store it in the center console when not in use.

When I was looking for my Q45, I had a hard time finding a Premium Q45. Tho it may have been because the car had to be black on black as well .

Cars without the navigation use the same dash, but the screen behind the control panel is 5.6" vs the 7.0" widescreen.

This is how my car came out with the new stereo.

Nice. So it looks like you took the cassete deck out. Did you do the work yourself? Easy to take out or did you have to do a lot of modifications to get it to fit? Something like this may work for me. Any advice you can provide will help. Thanks.

I have found the modules at the auto recyclers, but for what they are asking, I would just do an aftermarket setup. I had a local stereo guy do my entire system. I took them just over two months to do it because of the extensive amount of parts that I had them installed. When I dropped off the car, there wasn't enough room in the trunk for all the new stereo components going in.

You may also want to look into the Alpine VehicleHub system that allows you to add a new stereo and use the stock screen. That way you can add a navigation system. You are restricted to the factory 5.6" screen tho, as opposed to the navigation equipped 7" screen.

I am fairly certain that the differences in the non-nav and nav screens go beyond just the size difference. I believe that the non-nav screen is not full color, and likely incapable of satisfactorily displaying a full color feed that a nav unit would send it, if it could be displayed at all.

I've started looking into the Alpine Vehicle Hub system and it may work. Thanks.

Well I've been looking and it may not work with e Alpine Vehicle Hub. Local stereo shops not sure if it will work with Q and quoting prices close to 2grand. What I'm thinking about now is adding the JVC kd nx5000 where the cassette player is and using it that way since it is a single DIN. How hard was it to have the stereo guy hook your new player into where the cassette player was? I'll primarily use it for navigation and the occasional movie. What I don't like about the JVC is that it's not a touch screen. ThanksHenry
