ok so I install the j30 diff to my 89 hatch. Install went smooth except I had to shave off a hair off my steel drive. The problem that I'm having is that the whole rearend is vibrating at 30mph. I was told to use a washer for where the bolt goes in front of the diff. I try searching but can't find the problem I'm having.

'89 hatch, s13 sr, act six puck, dds Steel driveshaft, string and strut setup.

my car is a non abs the rear diff has the abs sensor. My therory is that I probably need a abs driveshaft.

since its a different diff. and you shaved some off the shaft its prob out of balance. really no way to fix this, but i would start with a new shaft(brand new)

I think you could just take off the driveshaft and have it rebalanced at a shop that does that kind of stuff.

How do you like the VLSD? The handling on my open-differential is so predictable, I am hesistating to make the switch, since my last car with a VLSD was quite a handful!

yes good question (justjuiceit44)

i just found a j30 in a salvage yard and was really thinking about it... other than my drive shaft is for a non abs car and id have to dot he same thing..

but with the shaftmasters abs aluminum 1piece drive shaft and the cheep j30 diff i found.

Is it worth it? or find another diff to save the driveshaft hassle?

i have a j30 rear end in my non abs s14 and I didn't change the drive shaft and it works fine. so you might want to check it before you spend the money.
