I have a 93' Fastback S13. I'm trying to install some new Boston ProSeries 6.5" that I have mounted to wood brackets. To all those that have installed aftermarket speakers in their doors, HOW DID YOU WIRE IT?

Did you use the completely pathetic stock speaker wires -- those 11-year-old 20-gauge speaker wires that have about 2 total strands of copper wiring in them?

I'm trying to run a length of knukoncepts 12 gauge speaker wires from my cabin to my doors. Those door grommets are so impossible to work with and there is absolutely no room to work with. I'm going for a stock/stealth look and don't want kickpanels.

One old trick is tape the new wires to the end of the old and use the old wires as pull cables. And a little bit of lube never hurt .

Give that a try.

before you install them, you should test fit them with your 6.5 bracket and PUT THE WINDOW DOWN so you can test the clearance. Those Boston Pros are awesome but have a huge arse!

anyways.. the easiest and best way in my opinion to feed the wire thru is to get some in-wall home speaker cable (16 awg works well) because it is double insulated (less of a chance to cut the insulation and get a short). And believe it or not... the best lube to use is KY jelly, but dont use too much and definitely tape your new wire to the old BEFORE you lube up.good luck!

i am building custom enclosures for my boston pro's because of that clearance. it is soo close and water gets into the s13 doors like crazy. it is possible to mount them on something like 1/2 inch or so wood, but that is a hell of a crap job to do for some boston pros... you'd have to coat the wood because when it rains it will get wet for sure.

haha ky jelly... i laugh but i'll try that when i'm mounting mine.

With those maplewood speaker adapters, the Bostons, just clear rolled down windows. However, I purchased some hard plastic speaker baffles to protect them from water damage and now they don't fit. i'm gonna cut them down to fit and just cover them up with saran wrap or something.

BUT, it still doesn't solve the wire-through-the door hinge-are problem. The solitary pair of crap speaker wire going into each door of my S13 are so thin and heatshrink-wrapped with all the power window and power mirror wires that there is no chance of merely taping new wires to the old and pulling them through the grommet cleanly. I'll take a pic of the grommet, although all you guys have to do is just look at yours yourself. That sucka is tight! Am I gonna have to take my door off for this seemingly simple install? I doubt i'll have them lined up porperly when I try to put them back on.
