Inspection tips and independent shop recommendation?

Hello all,

I just moved from IL to San Jose, CA, so quite new to this area. I haven't had any car inspection at IL and now I'm wondering what kind of preparation I need to do regarding maintenance. Currently my 240SX needs a new muffler and downpipe - there is some leak from downpipe/muffler and loud noise from there. Do you have any independent repair shop that you recommend? Thanks.

I know I have searched on this both on this forum and have used google, I do get results, I have called a few shops. The main reason I ask is because I want people to share recommendations and experiences they have had with reputable shops in the area.
