ok, so after a new starter, new plugs, and a new cooling fan, i thought the car would be ready to go for inspection and pass just fine. well, when the guy brought back my results, i had passed everything except for the high speed CO readings. i had 1.17 and the level should have been around .73. he said i probably just need an oil filter. is that right? i wouldnt think a filter would help that, and even if it did, the filter isnt that old, maybe a thousand miles at the most. my dad said i might need some RXP fuel additive. i havent driven the car in over a month, so some of the gas in the tank wasnt the best. could that be the problem? also, on the sheet it says transmission type, Auto, but its a 5spd, are the readings different for the trannys or the same? TIA

that guy's full of sh1t. Oil filters don't affect CO readings. Your cat is probably old, so it's not breaking down the exhaust gasses properly.

Take the rejected sticker off, and take it somewhere else. 99% chance that you will pass.

It sucks to take it somewhere else though...thats like an extra 40 bucks. Sorry you failed Seth, that fan working at least? I have no other suggestions :(

Well at most places down here, you get 2 weeks to fix your car and have it inspected again for free. So I suggest you do what you can to make it better, and if that doesn't work, it's time to take it to one of those "special" inspection stations. ;)

well, i ran it last night and drove it the long way to the place this morning. before that it had been sitting and the last time it ran was when it was inspected, where it over heated due to an inadequate cooling fan. when i pulled the old plugs, tehy were pretty nasty. i think it just needed to have the engine cleaned. i ran some RXP in it, which is one of the best cleaners out there. i'll run this gas with it and get some more later this week and keep running it with the RXP till i get it inspected again. i'll check the spark plug gaps and make sure everything is good and ready when i take it back.

and yah, i looked it up and the oil filter has nothing to do with the CO levels. i dont know if its the cat. i hope its not, cause this is starting to get expensive and i gotta save for school. and nathan, the fan is working great, thanks again!

if it fails again, i'll take it to a "specialist"
