I just bought a 2004 G35S, and its my first car I've ever had with Brembo brakes on it.

When I brake it gives me a squeaking noise, and I can't tell if I need new brakes, or if they are new and just need oil on them to stop squeaking. Is there an easy way to see/feel/tell the thickness of the pads? My brakes don't feel squishy, they are very sensitive(compared to my explorer) so I'm confused there if they do need to be replaced.

Thanks.

If you inspect the rotors and see a score mark, the pads need to be replaced ASAP. If it's only reaching the wear bar, you have some time...but do it soon. They are designed to work until no pad is left.

If you remove the wheel you should be able to visually inspect the caliper and determine how much thickness is left on the pads.

Alright I'm probably just gonna take off the wheel and checkthe pads out this weekend. It was just confusing because the brade pedal is still very responsive.

On another note, a rock hit my winshield today putting a nice quarter size chip in it. AWESOME :tisk:

Insurance should cover a new windsheild (except for deductible probably). Depends on your carrier/coverage.

Yeah I have a few options. I JUST bought the car last friday(2004) and of course just got the insurance. Thinking of changing my deductable to something really low, waiting a couple weeks then calling them lol. Im gonna try this windshield repair resin first though.

First off, brakes do NOT need oil, ever. Never get grease, oil, or if you're a fanatic not even fingerprints on the brake rotors.

Assuming the pads still have friction material on them and the pad backing plates aren't rubbing on the rotors (you'll hear and feel grinding through the brake pedal), squeaking is perfectly normal for high-performance brakes. If you want quiet brakes that don't badly dust the wheels, get a plain-jane commuter car that doesn't have Brembo brakes.
