My 2001 Nissan Infiniti i30 dies when its in idle.

i rented a diagnostic scan handheld machine thingy and the codes were:

P0430 "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2"

P0740 "Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit open 1 confirmed + also one pending"

now this tells me absolutely nothing...but im happy to see its not a million things!

On a scale 1 to 10, one being "do it with your eyes closed" and 10 being "set your car on fire now" - where would you rank these reparations? Cost? How to fix? Any insight would be helpful please! :)

The P0430 shouldn't be causing your issues, its just throwing a code for emissions sake.

You got it.

Sorry, couldn't resist. My 2nd thought (my first one was above), is perhaps the fuel filter is due to be changed? It's a very inexpensive fix and might cause an idling car to stall.
